[Sponsor] ScreenConnect Self-Hosted Remote Support Software

forum full of people asking questions. Not many answered though.
I've got the "Installation Issues" forum page open right now and it has almost every single thread getting replies from SC staff or one of the veteran users. Almost no threads have no replies at all. I think you're looking at the forum of a different company.

Hi, Jake. Thank Reid again for his help the other day in my router set up. (For those playing at home, my port forwarding was set up fine but just wasn't working. We removed those and set it up under Virtual Server for the same effect).

I'm taking the trial and so far, so good. Notes and questions:

  • Connected to an XP laptop on my bench -- couldn't deactivate Avast as its "Are you sure" countdown window was untouchable. I've posted to the SC forums about that a few minutes ago.
  • Avira on my main system reacts every time a connection starts, I think it's Gen/Dropper or some generic false positive. No other ill-effects of it, though. Just FYI.
  • Running the gamut, I threw RKill into the toolbox and, no surprise, lost the connection. There's a batch file on TN that lets you whitelist processes so I'll dig that up.
  • Had a connection going to my bench machine. Forgot it was running and then connected to the laptop. Two connections. I was only accessing one at a time (it's just me) but want to be clear I understand the limits on the license. Is the two connections a 'bonus' of the trial or is it just that I can only access one at a time?

Ha, Reid has become quite the expert in the nuances of routers these days. If you ever want to screw with him, call support and start with: "So I have this comcast router...."

We've occasionally heard about some windows that are unclickable, but it's been with Vista+, so I figured it was some kind of weird UIPI issue, but we could never figure it out. If you're getting it in XP, that may explain why we couldn't figure out how UIPI would cause it. If you posted it on the forum, we'll look into it. Thanks.

Gen/Dropper is a generic message that I believe appears when an EXE extracts other EXEs. Our bootstrapper does this. But, you shouldn't have to use our bootstrapper on the tech side. Don't you have ClickOnce support with your browser? It should launch instantly (for host and guest). Anyway, we try and whitelist all of our major releases, but not the prerelease builds.

The trial allows two concurrent connections. The $275 is only one concurrent connection.

The two connections are just for the trial, unless you buy two ;)

What I have done is connect to the first one but if you disconnect it gives you the option to keep it live, encase you want to go back to it. Then you can connect to a second one.

It's good if you are waiting for scans to complete. I did have 3 open at one point using the above method.

Can someone point me to instructions on the best way to handle multiple techs within a lan? Currently I have the trial setup on my workstation with ports 8040-8041 forwarding to my workstation. If I setup another workstation to handle sessions, is it easy enough to change the ports for that workstation to use 8042-8043 and forward respectively? The workstations are on the same lan and use the same public IP.

As far as I know, you install it on one machine, with the ports open and then create multiple logins and the rest just use the external url to your computer with the 8040 port in the URL and log in with their details.

Yup that's how we used the trial. Looking to revisit this now with logmein almost expired, though hoping to setup the server offsite on a hosted solution to improve speeds.

Anybody figured out how to remove an Unattended from your panel?

On the SC forum, the only answer I've gotten is "uninstall it from the client" but that's not acceptable. What if you lose a customer and can no longer access it? What if they're distant (e.g. "remote") and they've had a clean install done?

hmm good point. You can't even use a "-" expression to exclude it from the group.

e.g to a client no longer with add the tag ohdearhesgone. and then create a group in unattended that ignores people with that tag. Only seems to be inclusive expressions on there, which seems to be quite a big oversight.

We'll be adding more extensive Unattended client managing in a version coming up soon. This should include auto-update, retagging, uninstalling, blocking, etc.

pceinc, one workstation should act as the "server" if you don't have a purposed server already. You just open the ports to this one server. Your customer and both technicians connect to the server. No need to open ports to each workstation. Its sounds like you're already good to go.

Yes it looks feasible. We are looking into using amazon services to host our aging crm server along with some other minor things so it's looking like we should be able to put this on there as well without much impact at all. *touch wood*

is it possible to customize ScreenConnect eg. Logos, Install names, etc?
Yes.

I have to say the customization was the easiest and hassle free thing i've ever had to do. I sat down expecting to spend an afternoon having to edit things I didn't understand but it's really easy and was done in 15 minutes.
