[Sponsor] ScreenConnect Self-Hosted Remote Support Software

How does the program cope with UAC, do you have to take any extra steps or does it cope automatically?

edit: oh and when rebooting system remotely, how does it capture the login password? Couldn't see an option to capture them.

Jake, do you offer a competitive upgrade price for techs wanting to move from another system to yours?

Sorry, we don't offer any outright discounts. However, I think our marketing guys have some money to play with and can give you a price break if you do a case study. Typically is just a 10 minute phone call that can give you some publicity too.

The company I work for is looking for a remote support program to replace VNC single click that we are using now.

Does ScreenConnect get flagged by any AV programs when a client tries to connect? Also, can the client fully run w/o admin rights?

Thanks!

We work really hard to stay whitelisted on the virus tools. For the most part, they let us work anyway, but some of the more troublesome ones (ahem norton) give us some issues occasionally. Usually we hear about it and remedy it quick, so 99.9% of our customers are unaffected.

Yes, the client runs just fine without admin rights. However, to see UAC prompts you need to elevate into service mode. This will require admin credentials. That's the best behavior you'll find however.

We try to start service-mode when our client starts. If the user is an unelevated admin, they get a UAC prompt when starting the client. This allows you to see all UAC prompts during the session. If they aren't an admin, or they say no to the original prompt, you can to elevate into service mode by providing admin credentials during the session. But most of the time, they'll consent and you see UAC prompts just like you would on the console.

Hope this helps!

A bit disappointed to hear this. I currently use a Bomgar B100 which can handle multiple concurrent sessions.
My renewal from Bomgar is now due at $397.
A few times each month I would need the ability to have 3 or 4 concurrent sessions active. A switch to ScreenConnect would cost 4 x $275 = $1,100. This is $700 more and I would loose features!
I will keep an eye on ScreenConnect and see if any upgrade offers are available next time my Bomgar renewal is due...

That functionality is fine, same with the logon screen, as long as I can log back in remotely i'm fine with that. :) Enjoying the product so far, just having fun customising it, if it keeps up the high standard we will almost certainly be buying it at the end of the trial.

edit: It would be nice to have a progress display when transferring files used in the toolbox. IE at the moment i'm waiting for a 2 meg file to upload and there's nothing happening. I know it's uploading but would be nice to see progress, also the customer isn't going to think i'm sleeping as well.

Ah, so you haven't discovered our cut/paste or drag/drop? We need to do more within the app to push this....

With cut/paste and drag/drop you can cut/drag files and directories directly out of explorer windows (or many other programs) on your side and paste or drop them into explorer windows (or many other programs) on the customer side. You'll get a cancelable explorer dialog on the target side that also shows progress. It also works in reverse from the customer to you.

i can honestly say this is probably the best program you will find, especially for the price. I am not a fan of continuously paying monthly for a program you may or may not use. A one time charge is awesome!

The features work great. I have tried this with MAC and PC without any issues. My trial is almost up so it looks like i will be purchasing a license soon!

I'm not sure about the forums. We're on a VPS with an apparently very complex NAS system. The provider is working on fixing it, but the forums have a lot of I/O and are pretty much dysfunctional unless the NAS is running at 100%. The normal site seems unaffected.

Looks like it has a lot of the features I would use but I will have to test it out. I have already used 2 remote access software options and in each case found something that made me move on to another product. Unfortunately in each case I found out the flaws while on a remote call with a customer. But I will give it a try.

was going to give this a try as our LMI-Rescue licence is up for renewal now, but having a problem & don't know if it's just me or what, maybe someone could throw some light on it...

I d/l the latest stable ver.2.2.1762.4220 from your website & started the install on a win7 starter netbook (fully patched; Eset Smart Security), it gets as far as 'launching the Administration' page in the browser window but then just stops & after a few mins gives the windows page cannot be displayed screen... I've un-installed & re-installed it but it's the same???

Thanks,
BCC

BCC,

I'm not sure what would cause that issue. Possibly an overzealous firewall or AV program? Anyway, we'd be glad to help you out. You can call our support line at (919) 532-0022 monday-friday, or shoot us an email at support@screenconnect.com and we can arrange a time to call you.
thnx, Jake, I was hoping to try it from home over the long Bank Hol w/end here in Ireland :D but I'll wait til tues when i'm back in our normal work environment & see if the same happens there, if it does I'll defo give your support guys a call.

Great Software

Our trial just ended, we did get it configured and working. We will be making a purchase soon.

We had a vonage router giving us grief at first but made some changes and its a great piece of software, highly recommended.

Thanks,
Matt

love screen connect. i've tried all. this is by far the best. price was a big plus.

one thing i need to get working. how to install on a network without the customer needing to do anything.

Tried scripts and group policies none have worked.

I have had a hit & miss with group policy. It has installed on about 10 machines but not on another 10, alll are running XP. Try the screen connect forums, I usually get a quick answer there if you don't get one here.

He's referring to deploying our unattended client automatically across a network. The unattended client is a custom generated MSI file.

I had a bear of a time trying to get group policy working to deploy our MSI. I don't have any experience with group policy outside of this attempt. I know the MSI has to be on a network share that everyone has rights to and can be addressed the same way from all computers. There are a lot of other stars that have to align also. We used to recommend group policy thinking it was an great way to utilize existing infrastructure, but it was such junk that I stopped recommending it.

We don't really have any expertise in house, but like 4ycr said, someone on our forums can likely help.
