[Sponsor] ScreenConnect Self-Hosted Remote Support Software

I'm still waiting on my request of a remote command line function. :)

Awesome product BTW - I use it daily. :)

thanks

I hardly ever write a testimonial for a product... but I would strongly endorse screenconnect. I've been using it for 2 years with very few glitches. My 3 reasons for choosing it - 1) it's simple and works 2)the price is reasonable for a single tech 3) The support is good. I just got off of the phone with tech support there and I can't say how satisfying it is to reach an actual person speaking actual English and not waiting in a queue on top of that.

My router was flaking out so I went with a new one that I could put DD-WRT on. Had some port forwarding problems (or so I thought). I emailed support and Reid got back to me within about 15 minutes, scheduled a connection for within the hour.

Turns out PF was working but it was a loopback issue where *I* couldn't see it on my own machine. He could. Ahhh. He had some cards up his sleeve and was extremely helpful.

Anyone had cause to get SC working on freenas?

It would be handy if I could host it on a freenas box I've got running.

I doubt it. FreeNAS is FreeBSD based, and it's probably not linux-y enough for our stuff. There are a bunch of specifics we need such as ABI, init.d, libdl, libc, ldconf, etc, but I'd just give it a try and see if it works. I'll give it a 10% chance of working. The install is easy to back out. It's just mainly under /opt/ScreenConnect with a startup script in /etc/init.d/screenconnect plus some symlinks from /etc/rcX.d to the init script.

Since it looks like replies here are pretty quick (both from ScreenConnect and the rest of you guys), I'll post the same question I emailed ScreenConnect support yesterday (and still didn't hear back) :)

1. I see in the ScreenConnect FAQs the system requirements for v2.4, but not for the newer versions. Did system requirements change?
2. Did OS compatibility change for the new versions of Screenconnect (specifically, will they work with XP and Server 2003)?
3. if it's installed on server machine at my office, can I do remote support sessions to a client from a laptop when I’m on road? If so, when on the road, will the ‘server’ machine that’s at the office be sending/receiving video, or will it just handle the connection/authentication (I’m concerned about the bandwidth in the office in this case)?
4. Looking at the downloads section, they all say ‘release’ and number in their name. How to tell which of the downloads is a pre-release, and which has been vetted/thoroughly-tested?
5. Is the Android app is for controlling a client’s machine from Android device, or controlling Android devices?

thx!

3. Yes. I have it installed on my main machine in my office but can use my iPad or laptop on the road to remote access someone elses PC

4. where it says stable any Beta says pre-release

5. Not used this but got told a while ago it is for controlling the clients machine from your Android device. The IOS app is like this.

5. The Android app also allows for control of the android device. So you can use it to support Android devices.

3. Yes, you can use it on the road. There are a few ways to do this.
A. Easiest way is to get a static IP from your ISP. Create a subdomain from your domain name with your Web hosting company. Point that to your static IP.
B. Use a service like dyn if you have a dynamic IP and can't have a static IP. This will give you an address like yourname.dydns.org.

1. The system requirements are still valid for the newest version.

2. XP is still listed as supported for hosting.

Lastly, you can always get VPS hosting. Via ThrustVPS, AlienVPS, ChicagoVPS or a similar company. They are pretty cheap less than 10 bucks a month. You may even be able to add VPS to your Web hosting account. Talk to your provider.

I signed up for the trial yesterday. Got everything installed and running just fine. The only issue is related to the actual session. Granted I only tried it once last night but I could not get the remote session window to open. Showed it was connected. Probably just an ID ten T moment on my part.

At any rate it looks pretty good. Just need to test out all of the functions before I drop the $$$.

I have been testing it for a week and I like it, don't care for the Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant add-on for Firefox, its awful, a quick Google will give you lots of info on it. I just use IE for ScreenConnect sessions and it has been working flawlessly.

I think you can only control Samsung devices with ScreenConnect. The client version to view other desktops should work on all Android devices.

The newest version includes VOIP, and I'm in love. That's what I was holding out for, and on initial purchase ScreenConnect guys mentioned that VOIP would be available in the near future. Well, they held true to their word. I am now 100% satisfied and am purchasing another seat for my license right now!
