[Sponsor] ScreenConnect Self-Hosted Remote Support Software

Is there a way to use ADWCleaner with Screen Connect without it disconnecting? I am wanting to switch from Goto Assist to Screen Connect, but Screen Connect doesn't seem to handle ADWCleaner very well. Goto Assist handles it better, but still not perfectly. At least with Goto Assist, I am able to reconnect to an Unattended Support session in the matter of a few seconds. I'm not able to with Screen Connect.

Xander is right and I've gotta say I think I like this softer gentler side - sunshine, lollipops & rainbows. I always knew there was a unicorn in there just waiting to come out :D.

I've been able to get around it by using a batch file in my toolbox utilizing the shutdown cmd with the reboot switch. i.e. shutdown /r /t 300 which gives me 5 minutes to hit the clean button and wait for the reboot.

Ah, of course so simple and so obvious. Thanks. I got caught out the other day with disconnected LogMeIn after hitting the Clean button.

Thanks everyone for your input. Although it is an ADWCleaner issue, Goto Assist is getting around it by some functionality that they have and SC doesn't. I think if the Goto Assist service is killed, it restarts after 10-20 seconds so I can reconnect with an unattended session. ADWCleaner has finished at that point and asking to restart the computer.

I will give the shutdown /r /t 300 a try.

Thanks again for all the input.

Actually that's an even better idea. Has anyone tried to config the SC service to restart after the 1st, 2nd or 3rd failure in the SC service - properties - recovery tab. I wonder if the folks at SC could config the service to do that by default when SC installs.

As soon as I click clean in ADWCleaner, I lose my remote session in Goto Assist. At that point I can go into my unattended support computers list and see the computer offline. I click the refresh button in Goto Assist and the remote computer will then show up as being online again and I connect to it just like I normally would. I don't think this functionality has anything to do with ADWCleaner whitelisting Goto Assist. If it were being whitelisted, the connection would never be broken to begin with.

When I try the above in SC, I am dead in the water as soon as I tell ADWCleaner to clean. I have to call the client and have them restart the computer. This isn't always an issue, but sometimes the remotes are taking place late at night. I have yet to try the shutdown /r /t 300 command.

Other than that minor glitch, I am loving SC so far. I beta tested Goto Assist in it's early days and have been with them ever since. I like being able to host the SC myself as I've paid over $3000 for Goto Assist already over the years and don't own the software.

We have about 650 computers setup for unattended support, so moving over will be time consuming, but worth it in the long run.

Looking forward to purchasing Screenconnect in the coming months as I expand my part time/side business. I'm curious if there are any planned major releases in the pipeline.

you have a year of updates so even if new version just around the corner you will get them. even after the year you can purchase a new reduced cost licence.

Anyone having problems with SC services not starting at pc startup after upgrading to latest version? (using delayed start as a walkaround but it's a bit of a pain)

Hey everyone!

Sorry for such a large lull between any members of our team posting. It's been a little hectic here as of late, but we're trying to rededicate ourselves to interacting with everyone here. First and foremost, we have a lot of exciting little bits of information to cover.

Version 5.1 had it's stable release a couple weeks ago, and version 5.2 was published as a pre-release at the end of last week. You can grab the server install for either of those here: https://www.screenconnect.com/Download .

Version 5.1 is largely based upon performance improvements. Version 5.2 is the one with some BIG feature additions (not to downplay the importance of v5.1's improvements).

For example, the first feature addition with version 5.2 is Remote Printing. Jake, our CTO, posted a demo to our YouTube channel a couple weeks ago:

Let us know what you think!

I was going to purchase 2 more licenses for screenconnect self hosted, but I have some concerns.

Since screenconnect has been purchased, it's obvious there has been a shift to a 'monthly cloud service' pricing model. The self hosted pricing information has been put to the bottom of the page and made less prominent.

In addition to this, the output stream in the forums has completely stopped since 5.3 was released. Usually we would be hearing about the upcoming version even before the current one went stable.

I e-mailed support and basically got 'no comment' from them, which makes me even more nervous. Can I get some kind of assurance that there is a plan to keep developing the self hosted version and that it won't be scaled back or abandoned?

the whole reason I went with Screenconnect was it was self hosted. I hope they keep developing it.

Same here. Unless the self-hosted feature remains, for me at least, there will be no compelling reason to stay with SC.

I've also noticed lately that SC forum requests for assistance seem to be going unanswered.

I fear that my initial optimistic view of them, as a newcomer with huge potential, may turn into a huge disappointment. I hope I'm proved wrong.

I reckon development would have been slowed during the buyout, I had talked to the owner Jeff a few months ago and he said it was pretty crazy there at the time. Still, I dont know whether it was purchased to make it better or to make it go away as a competitor. I can page @JakeFromScreenConnect but he may not be able to comment on the future of ScreenConnect (since those decisions are usually high up) and he may not even be with the business anymore since it was bought out. Though I understand they kept much of their staff.

Good to hear! I see it on the downloads and forums now. Also from your forums "We are not stopping or slowing down the development of ScreenConnect in any way for both the self-hosted or cloud version. Not a chance."

Good news! I love screenconnect!!

Yes, it's been a while. We used to count on some breathing room every few days to have a chance to post builds, but there hasn't been much of that lately!

Posting 5.4 build right now though....
