Odd one. Laptop that had Windows 10 previously. Came in with a KB/mouse issue. Tested HDD failing. They didn't want to fix at the time. Got worse, so they went ahead to replace drive.

Installed new SSD. Installed windows 10 1709.

When you reboot or boot up you get the Windows boot screen then it goes black.

No cursor or anything. Just looks like the backlight is on nothing else.

KB does nothing.

However, If I hit the power button it will turn off and go to sleep (still no display). Then when I turn it back on it will immediately go to the login screen and then works normally.

Any ideas?

Has Intel HD 3000 graphics.
Uninstalled and let Windows reinstall the driver, no change.
Manually installed latest driver available for 7/8 64bit ends in 4229. Microsoft catalog provides 4559.
Turned off fast startup.

Before someone says....update the bios. I updated the BIOS to the latest A05 version from 2012. It was on A04. And now it boots up all the way just fine.

Thanks me!

i had one of these the other day, oddly enough my fix was to boot to safe mode, then disable the graphics adapter and then it worked

The funny thing is I swear it was working after I installed Windows. But it seemed to be:

Reboot: black screen
Shutdown + Turn on: normal

Then was always black screen.

Who knows. Seems like there's always some kind of Windows 10 problem going on in my life.

Check the event logs.
Been seeing a lot of Kernel Power Event ID 41 lately.
Ooooops, didn't see that the BIOS update fixed it.
Sorry.
