What are we eating??????????

Subway is a huge international chain. They are slight more healthy than McD's and that's about it. If this scares you, don't look at what's in their meat. I am a huge proponent of trying to eat as close to the vine as possible, so to speak. The further you are from the actual growing of your food the worse off you are, in general.

However, the freak out over this chemical (azodicarbonamide) is a little disingenuous on the part of the media. It is not a plastic, nor is it a foam, it is simply an agent that is used to makes things a little more stretchy. The first reports I saw of this said there was literally plastic or foam in the bread, which is not true. Not to say we should eat it by the truck load, but it is not plastic. (I know the op didn't say so, and he is right, in some countries it is labeled as a carcinogen). I just hate inaccurate reporting by the media. There is enough fact to go around on this one to cause the same visceral reaction without getting all playful with the truth.

while the chemical itself my be harmless it's what happens while it is being digested chemicals of your body mixing with food creates other chemicals that may be carcinogenic.
This includes so called nutrasweet ect. i don't touch the stuff basic chemistry even well known biochemist agree this stuff is really bad for you.

Been hearing nasty stuff from Subway lately. Can't remember the last time I ate there.

I love Jersey Mikes though!

To be honest so many serve factory food for the most part and customers have no idea. I would bet a huge number of younger people have no idea what real roast beef, corned beef, turkey breast, etc. looks like.

I saw a documentary a couple of years ago that went through the production of food used by fast food chains. Extruders galore. Very unappetizing.

I buy most of my meat and veggies local from one of the many coop stores and only certified organic.

I have not had fast food in over three years. I don't even order pizza, I make my own. I make my own dough, my own sauce, and use locally made meats. The only time I get veggies from the supermarket is winter.

I grow my own 1 acre garden with anything you could imagine. I can enough food in the fall to make it to April the following year as well. It is a lot of work, but it is worth being able to go to my apple trees or blueberry bushes and eat till I am stuffed.

Something I found very intresting, one of our other business we used to supply cattle (beef) to a number of highstreet supermarkets, (Marks and Spence, Morrisons, Local Butchers and McDonalds) most of them are know of their quality of beef sold, The most shocking thing is the McDonalds had the highest standard - but paid extra for it.
