What are the firearm owners here carrying and how?

Makes sense, but how did they get all the guns back from the people?
The government offered a "buyback" scheme for legitimate gun owners, as well as an amnesty on handing in unregistered/unlicensed firearms. It worked very well, as there were millions of guns destroyed!

it was illegal for Australians to own handguns without a permit, and you needed a really, really good reason to get a permit.
The only "legal" hand guns were those carried by Police and (some) authorised Security people.
You could also (at one time) legally own a handgun if you were a registered member of an incorporated Gun Club, although the pistol was never allowed to leave the Gun Club!
I'm not sure if this is still the case?

So if I understand this correctly, you would not use a firearm to defend yourself against an attacker that means to cause grave bodily injury or death to you or a loved one?
In Australia, you would be in enough trouble for having the gun let alone shooting someone with it lol

He said "would you respect me, if I didn't have this gun?" 'Cause, without it, I'm nothin' and that's why I carry one!"

Things are a bit different in Alaska. Here's my daughter shopping for some personal protection. She really loved the .50 cal Bushmaster but passed on it in favor of something more mobile - heh!

Did they pay full price what you folks paid for them?

Many of us here in the States think that we are responsible for our own safety and we don't need the Government to provide that for us. Nor are they obligated to either. Many court decisions have ruled that the police are not obligated to protect you. They are there mostly to draw the outline of your body and conduct the investigation into your homicide should you chose not to defend yourself or are not very good at it.

To continue to build off of this, in certain areas (big cities) the emergency response time can be extremely high (30+ minutes). In my local area it's not that high, but if someone is breaking down your door in the middle of the night, a person would either need to run or fight off an attacker until the police arrive. While running is a valid option for a single person, if a person has a spouse, infant children, etc. the ability to flee quickly is gone, and the need for protection is often solved in firearm ownership.

I don't have a gun or carry. A few of us girls thought about it a few years ago, we shopped for the pink guns, It was nothing I went for seriously. My old BF had a bunch of guns in the house and I never thought twice about it, never was scared, worried. I grew up with guns. I used to pack shot gun shells for my step dad in the "gun room" and that is also where I stole all the vodka and replaced with water lol.

My uncle Bob said my step dad always knew what shells I loaded because they all sucked.

I would carry if I felt I needed to. Good post btw.

The problem is criminals now own guns still are they going to hand their weapons in dont think so. Was an incident the other day some fool in his car reached into his pocket to get a lighter for a cigi and fired his pistol into his testicle..wrong weapon :p

Personally I dont see the need to own a .50 Calibre rifle or high powered assault rifles, but thats my opinion.

So they lied?

Police are generally pretty useless in the UK too to be honest. If you call them urgently because someone is breaking into your house, they'll turn up .... the next day, probably. On the other hand, drive over the speed limit for while and you can guarantee they'll be there.

The only guy I've ever known is a licensed armourer who supplies firearms for film and TV

Did someone mention a water pistol?

That reminds me, I need to reload mine...(local cats)

Assault rifles are fully automatic weapons and require a mile of paperwork, a tax $tamp and an investigation from the Government to obtain a Class III license. Furthermore, those weapons on average cost many thousands of dollars. The average citizen does not, and cannot own or buy one without going through this circus of hoop-jumping.

You've been spoon-fed the mainstream media definition. It is false and they know it. They just keep repeating the same lies over and over and have most of the ignorant population convinced every gun owner has a machine gun under their bed.
