Problem on Multi-OS bootable usb made with ventoy

I have recently made a multi-os usb using ventoy with default settings but the usb works in some pc's and computer (worked on Dell i5 8th gen and hp i6 7th gen) flawless but in some pc and laptop's it doesn't work. When I tried to boot window 10 using ventoy made bootable usb it didn't boot and also no error it was a lenovo i5 4th gen laptop.

And in a older pc hpcompaq8000 I tried to boot it boot menu did not opened and the window on harddisk was not working until I removed the usb. But with with normaly made bootable usb with cmd worked on both without a problem.

What could be the possible reasons for this and any recommended solutions. Actually I want to make multi-os usb so I don't need to carry 2 to 3 usb's.

Also make sure Ventoy is installed with the GPT partition style. Or on an older PC, it may need to be MBR.

It was in mbr partition style. So, it can be used on both uefi and legacy.

Failure in Lenove Laptop (i5 4th): Usb boots from boot menu and then ventoy interface shows up from the listed windows 10, 11 iso file I select windows 10 and choose normal boot option and press enter after that a black screen appears with cursor blinking on the top left corner of screen and nothing happens. I have waited on that for like 20 to 30 minutes booted usb 3 times but every time stuck on the black screen.

Failure in Hpcompaq8000: Boot menu doesn't show up after pressing f9 multiple times just a black screen with cursor on the top left corner blinking. But I was able to go in the bios setting with f10 changed some settings used defaults but nothing in the end worked.

What worked: When I used a bootable usb made with cmd it worked on both laptop and the computer without any problem.

Note: I used the default settings of ventoy for making the multi-os bootable usb.

I use Ventoy all the time, multiple USB drives, SSD drive enclosures via USB, and on multiple pc's. I have seen some issues caused by 1. Switching between PCs requires re-verifying the key. 2. Corrupt ISO. 3. Incorrect boot setting and/or order in the BIOS.


As I don't have any PC's that old as you've mentioned,
Ventoy may not be compatible with the older hardware/BIOS.

I think you need to apply the ventoy.ignore to files/folders you do not wish to read during load. As it is seeking all files on the ventoy not just the ones to load as in ISO files/folders. I put a ventoy.ignore in all folders except ISO folders.

Once this is created in the CMD line, it will generate a ventoy.ignore file. Then simply copy and paste this file into each directory you do not want ventoy to read.

Just as a quick aside, I had this same sort of thing going on with a pre-8th generation Intel processor about 2 weeks ago. Turning off secure boot did nothing, creating a separate Windows 10 bootable media with MBR format did nothing. In the end, literally nothing would work and I gave up, since the concern was data (stored on a separate partition on the drive, thank heaven) and there's no point in fighting epic battles to get Windows 10 up and running again on a machine about to be retired.

But it's the first time that bootable media from the Media Creation Tool as well as having been created by Rufus from the ISO simply would not work.

I actually carry a keychain of USB thumb drives each of which has its own dedicated installer on it. Much as I love the idea of Ventoy, I just find this easier and less trouble prone.

Nope never gone back to USB, can die at any time plus I lose them all the time. With Ventoy it is so much easier to which I have a 2TB M.2 in an enclosure. This with all the common tools I use and the ISO's as well, I have the mediacreation.bat on there as well within the toolset.

Same. I have a 2TB SSD in a USB enclosure. On it are: Ventoy- all of my "tools" + 12 ISOs. Various Windows. Various Linux flavors. Hirens, Dban, etc. It's almost too easy.
I switched to Ventoy because of the multiple issues I had with the various forms of making a bootable USB.

I too switched to IODD several years ago and would never switch back. So easy to use all in one unit. I have the same model @timeshifter linked to.

I had looked at those in the past though Ventoy seems to do a good enough job for me. Can one browse through the local directories on those like a drive, rather than the LCD?

Yes. You have effectively two devices plugged in. One is the optical disk (.ISO) file. The other is just a drive like any other, which includes a ISO folder where you can place up to 32 ISO files. You can connect as just optical drive mode, just HDD mode, or both.

Been using my IODD for about 7 years? Same as the one @timeshifter linked to.
So easy. Not one single issue. Upgraded the drive to a 1TB SSD recently.
