Was it mentioned in passing or were there other comments?Somebody on another forum pointed out this one, which I've never heard of: http://www.remoteutilities.com/
I could not find a lot of information about it except that it is not very 'polished'.Unfortunately no real comments about it, though I must say it looks promising...
Thank you for your interest. Quick answer to your question - it can be hosted either locally or remotely (i.e. the connection can be direct IP-to-IP, or mediated), you choose. But that also depends on the type of license - the Enterprise license works both ways, whereas the Helpdesk license allows only the mediated connection.
A couple of words about pricing and licensing. We don't use the subscription model. Instead, we offer a flat fee lifetime license for all three types - Home, Enterprise and Helpdesk.
Finally, in the nearest month we are planning to release the new version 5.1. This new version will have a lot of improvements, especially for Helpdesk use. Namely, there will be the QuickConnect module (take a look at this page
http://www.remoteutilities.com/product/what-is-quickconnect.php ) and the Gateway Mediation Server. The latter is your own, on-premise mediation server (will be available for free) which can be used for bypassing firewalls/routers thus providing customer support with ease.
Are you going to try the free trial?I got this reply from the RUT people:
Edit: If the poster above happens to be from Zolved, you might want to get your website up before posting about it...
but frankly I'm a little confused about all the different options LogMeIn has. Their website says "this works with this" and "this works with this" but I can't figure out on which computers they are talking about and how any of those would add up financially.
TL..what are your needs? In 9 out of 10 calls....where you need a remote app....specifically what are your needs?
Not sure how it jives with their terms but it's pretty easy to make a custom .msi for logmein free which installs it using your email and password, silently if necessary. You can easily host that on your website and have the customer download and use it - or use join.me to do that bit yourself.
It's not perfect but it's free and LMI is just about the fastest remote connection you can get as far as I can tell.
I've had a play with that, Lalo's BetterTechVideos over at Podnutz has a video that walks you through it. It uses AutoIT and InstEd to create a new .exe. The only problem I've had is that it can take up to 10 minutes to install at the client end. Also, it crashes my XP VM and won't run at all on one of my W7 machines.
Another method is to use something like ShowMyPC to simply get on to the client's PC and then install and test LogMeIn before disconnecting the ShowMyPC session.
