Microsoft Office 32/64 Bit Issues

Ok, so apparently you can't run 32-bit and 64-bit Microsoft Office applications on the same computer. Had a client running Win 7 x64. Computer came with Office 2010 starter (Word and Excel) and these are apparently 32-bit versions. So, the client needs Outlook 2010 installed (already purchased). I try installing it, but it tells me you can't install it while having Office Starter x86 installed (also said something about "Click-to-Run"). As far as I could tell via Google, the only fix is to uninstall Office Starter. So, that's what I did.

Could I have done anything else in this situation?

I had to do the same thing. Was unable to install a purchased MSO 2010 while the starter version was installed. Once I uninstalled Starter, no problem with installing MSO 2010.

Don't know if it's supposed to work that way, but that's how it went for me.

I wonder, is a license for x64 office good for x86 office?

Yes, the license is for MS Office itself, not to which version is installed.

It's the same as for Vista or 7. The license is the same regardless of whether you install the x86 or the x64 version.

Yes the licence is the same. The retail discs give both versions, but bear in mind that even MS recommend that you dont use x64 version of office.

Edit: Just to clarify, this recommendation is for compatability for addins and external programs which communicate with office. If you have non of these then x64 is fine to use

x86 vs. x64 strongly depends on the way the guy uses his computer. Does he have emails that are somehow over 2gb per? Or perhaps he has word documents or excel spreadsheets that large? In those cases, install x64. In any other case, x86 will be MUCH better. Seriously, look into it.
