I'm pretty sure that is incorrect, (but I'm willing to be corrected if you can provide a link to some relevant information).
The uBlock and uMatrix documentation is not very good at explaining how they work together.

uBlock Origin and uMatrix are by the same author and are designed to (optionally) work together.
uMatrix does matrix-based filtering, and handles cross-site requests.
uBlock does pattern-based filtering, is a "wide-spectrum" blocker, which can function as an "ad blocker".
They have different, complimentary functions.

The confusion is probably because uBlock does have an advanced mode which allows dynamic filtering and is a little like a "uMatrix-lite", but I don't use advanced mode since I use the more powerful uMatrix.
Huh! Thanks for that. I learn something everyday. :p:D

Well after reading all that I'm still/more confused about which one is better or whether they could or should be run together.
I'll stick with uBlock Origin on my daily drivers and keep uMatrix on my business computer.:D
The system's been working fine so I wont change it now.

Well after reading all that I'm still/more confused about which one is better or whether they could or should be run together.

It is confusing. My advice is:
If you want to block adverts - use uBlock Origin.
If you want to block 3rd party websites by default - use uMatrix.
If you want to keep things simple - use uBlock Origin.
If you want maximum control, and don't mind configuring your own rules to allow websites to work - use uBlock and uMatrix.

uMatrix breaks a lot of websites, which is by design because most websites use 3rd party websites and uMatrix blocks 3rd party websites by default.
For most people uBlock Origin only is the best choice.
uMatrix is good if you like to see how websites work, and to see which 3rd party services they rely on.

I've just been sticking with uMatrix, but I'll give it a shot with the combination. Not sure I've ever really run into anything I cared about blocking that was actually coming from the same host as the main site.

You may not notice any difference.
I find uBlock (with Easylist) is needed for blocking YouTube adverts.

Mine's very simple. Video Download Helper in FF. I've used many of those mentioned. My daily driver is OS X. I know there are risks to not employing various tools but for now that OS has no drive by risks. I'll still get the occasional scammer popup but just killing it seems to work. If I were to implement anything it would be NoScript in FF or similar in other browsers.

Edit: Forgot to add that I want to be able to use EU links with no filtering for trouble shooting.

Adguards filters are in uBlock Origin. So we get the best of both worlds!? :D
i mentioned Adguard For Windows (not the addon), the system wide software that "guard" all installed browsers, it block ads before they are loaded in the webpage, so no "empty blocks" on it, and it also includes more filters and some "stealth" and privacy features

Edit: BTW. Thanks for your help yesterday. :)
You are welcome ;)

There are (apparently) a huge amount of users jumping off the "Good Ship No-Script" because it just breaks too many sites, is a nightmare to configure properly and end users have no idea how to make it work either.

Ahh! I was under the impression you were using the "extension!"
I'll have to look into Adguard the program.

BTW: This thread is about "extensions" so your off topic! :p:D

No-script is a pain to configure properly but I can’t live without it. Still waiting for it to be released on the new FF quantum which they say should be by the end of the week.

I still don’t see many of my customers using any extensions at all. You don’t realize how bad websites are until you have to help a customer still waiting to use IE11. Ads take forever to load on it.

I also use the extension, however if it detects the software, it turns into "integration mode" and just act as a quick switch to whitelist/un-whithelist the page you like to be excluded.

So im still on-topic (ok i cheated a bit) :p :D

Two years ago I was using Adblock Plus and NoScript. But I found NoScript hard to use, never really understood it, and never really liked it.

I replaced Adblock Plus and NoScript with uBlock Origin and uMatrix.
uBlock - blocks adverts, and is similar to Adblock Plus.
uMatrix - blocks webpage elements, and is similar (but not identical) to NoScript.

So for me, installing uMatrix was a way to get rid of NoScript.
uMatrix can be difficult to learn, but compared to NoScript it is easy!

I used a custom built Firefox with NoScript around the time NoScript first appeared. I wrestled with it for a while then got rid of it when uBlock / uBlock Origin started.
NoScript was effective but complicated and required a lot of input on some web pages.
One day, I just had enough. Got rid of FF and NS, changed to Opera and never went near either of them again.

I don't understand the problem with No-Script. I invariably have to click just two things, if anything at all: 1) Allow the main page, and if it still doesn't work right, 2) Allow all this page. I'll have a look at u-Matrix though. I gave up on FF-Q because it broke most of my extensions. I get tired of waiting for extensions to catch up to FF updates all the time.
