Awcleanr and Jrt

I second the geekuninstaller over revo. I made that switch several months ago and like it much better.

As for jrt and adwcleaner, I run them in that order. I have had an issue in the past with adwcleaner screwing up Google chrome and Mozilla profiles, but that just took a log out/log in to fix. Once I had to re-install chrome to get past it. That's a pretty rare occurrence though.

Learning to use process explorer, and other sysinternals utilities, makes me feel like I do a more complete job than relying only on scans.

Years ago, poking around manually for virii was what I did first, now its what I do last. I let the tools take out 99% of the crap but when I think its totally clean I fire up a few things and scroll through looking for something that catches my eye. Also sometimes after a total cleanup you notice the system being lethargic on reboot or when using a browser or the A/V or Firewall is doing too much in task manager and there is something remaining that the tools didn't get. But when I do find a remaining "bad guy" before I go for a manual kill, I try to throw a few new tools at it to see if they catch it, if they do then they go into my kit and I see how they perform over the next dozen or so cleanup jobs.
