I compiled my technician's USB thansk to lists like these, but I found that I had soo much stuff I never ever used or needed and many of the programs do the exact same thing, although it is good to have multiple malware scanners becuase it has been proven that some catch things hat thers do not.

I set about compiling and refining a smaller USB kit of repair tools and tendevoured to find tools that performed multiple tasks in one application without, compromising quality or thoroughness.

I'm still refing the contents of my USB to be as small as possible so that I don't look at hundreds of icons and folders and ask myself "now what the heck does this one do again?".

That's where a little organization goes a long way. With the increasing size of flash drives, there's no reason to skimp on space when you don't need to (I've got 24-32GB with me at any time). I have two main drives; the first is for Disinfecting (copied for each bench spot) and is under 1GB. The other is an 8GB and has dozens of folders. If one file recovery program doesn't work, I've got others. If one favourite program needs .Net, I've got another that I can turn to.

I never need to say, "What does this one do?" because anything in that folder does the same thing.

It's not the space I'm trying to save, it's me trying to be organized. I used to download just about every repair tool going, but it makes for a bloated and unncesary USB thumb drive. I've been streamlining the tool list for months now and have narrowed down my repository to a couple of dozen tools that do everything I need!

Oh and I burn a copy of my USB thumb drive to DVD every now and then so that if the USB drive ever stops working in the field (happened twice over the years!) then I have another copy with me in my CD wallet.

Omg... that is some list... I am sure that most of us use some of the tools listed. This means that its time to update my usb and cd tech tools.....

But I agree that at times you end up saying to yourself, "what the hell does this do again?" Lol. Glad I'm not the only one it happens to.

I always carry at least 3 USB tools drives in my pocket at any one time - a drive never gets plugged into more than one customer machine and once it's been used it goes into a different pocket ready for wiping and a fresh copy of my tools

This is a pretty good list.

I have refined my list as well. The way I did it was by looking at what services I offered and what I needed to accomplish those services.
I also have a back up of every type of software I use in case a certain one doesn't work.
