Hello all.

We've always had difficulties when working with MCE due to the lack of available media to do repair installs or SFC repairs.

I recall someone saying that an XP AIO disk would alleviate the issues? Obviously that kind of thing can get shady but as far as I see, with use of legitimate serial keys it isn't an issue (as long as the build is safe and unmodified)

Is this the case and can anyone recommend a build to get? I can source it myself to avoid any grey areas

Honestly with people who ask me, I'm trying to push those still on XP toward Windows 7, or if they're comfortable with Windows 8. XP goes EOL next month, less than 30 days. I can't recommend people sticking on that platform unless they have a business application that HAS to have XP. Even then.....

I'm the same as Ohio. I'm pushing for those who are still on xp, to move to w7.

Been mentioning it in my monthly newsletters for a good few months. Even contacting clients by email, and phone to ensure that they are all aware.

The only XP repairs I am consenting to are offline / business / allocated machines that will for whatever reason be needed to keep doing what they do with the existing OS. Any domestic jobs involving XP are off the table these days, as just no benefit to the consumer spending money on them with like 2 months to go.

Can you sell the guy on an openelec install? It will give him a better experience than MCE and also does not require any windows install to run. Open source...

Thanks all

Got it sorted in the end, using a MCE disk sourced some place. Repair install went through "ok-ish" and the rest of the system I could repair once in place.
