I downloaded Windows7rc and burned it to disk but the disk will not boot.Is there anything else I need to do to the disk to make it bootable. Thanks for any information.

boot it out of the door. :)

with what program did you burn it.

you can also unzip the .iso file and double click on the setup icon and it will install that way.

I believe it is NOT a bootable ISO. I had to install from Windows XP. Did a dual boot.

The iso from MS's site is bootable. You need to use nero or similar program to burn the dvd at a low speed. Make sure you don't just burn a data disk. If you have nero, simply double click the iso. It will open up; tell it to burn, and insert a blank disk. But don't burn at full speed. Use 4x speed or slower. It will take a while, but you shouldn't have any errors installing that way.

I just installed it the other day, but took the upgrade route since my laptop had vista already. I wanted to see how well the upgrade route would go and voila, it actually worked! Not a problem, not additional drivers to reinstall. As the other guys mentioned, try the "burn ISO or Image" option in your burning software. Nero, or IMGBurn are great for this task. IMGBurn is free. Also, lowest speed is recommended.

rballard, try burning it at the lowest speed that is possible. Higher speeds have a greater chance of loosing data.

Also, ensure that you didn't just copy and paste the .iso to the CD/DVD. It won't boot if you do that. After you fininsh burning it, put it in while windows is on, and check the contents of the CD. If it says anything .iso, you did it wrong.

Finally, make sure that the BIOS is set to allow booting from CD before the HD.

CentiZen,

I think you have me confused with mkobylack. He is the one needing help. I didn't have any problems with downloading Windows 7, and am using it now.

I used ISO recorder to burn it to a dvd disk and also tried to burn it to my external HD but that didn't work either.Maybe I will try IMGBurn at a slower speed and see if that works.
Thanks for all your help,
mkobylack

After downloading the .iso from MS,I burnt it to CD using IMGBurn with no problems. I have installed from that disc several times with absolutely no issues. As mentioned above, make sure you burn at the slowest speed possible..having said that I will admit I burnt at Max speed and have not had a bad burn yet, (more good luck than good management I think)
