[REQUEST] Win 10 1803 fixes for failed install

Well, this is what Fab's pulled with Prodkey:

Interesting, I've never seen that... but if I had to venture a guess, it was an early release of 2013 that worked like 2010 did. If that is the case, the key will work via office.com/setup, and install from there. I had some Lenovo's like that!

yup, thats the same link I told him to use. Gotta love microsoft.

yeah, like I said, msft told him the key was used too many times, he was mad!!!!

That's because you can only use an office key ONCE. It's locked to an account and that's that. The regenerated key can be used as much as you want. But he didn't bother to read the instructions on the card... so...

So many people think they can buy software and use it on many different computers.

This is why you need to link it to a Microsoft account. You don't lose the key that way.

Yes, but with all the keygens out there, it's possible to get a dead key out of the box, or lose a key you didn't activate. It's an expensive lesson to learn... no different than losing the key used to be.

I have had a couple of these now. A fix for a few of them has been to run the 1803 update from a memory stick via task manager - file - open
One thing I would be careful of is if their user data is in windows.old. I have seen kicking off a new upgrade wipe that folder and make a new one thus wiping there backed up data. I rename windows.old to something else before running 1803 update, then manually move the data if needed once finished.

If this works system has all software and data still there and seems good as new.

If it was VL, it would say Professional Plus, there is no "Professional" package in the VL program. At least, assuming my memory isn't utter crap.
Did some more research and you are correct.

Still think when he spoke to MS, he did not give the correct response to how many computers is this installed on. Hint:: ONE...

Yep, M$ has gamed the system so that it is better to just sell O365. It's all I sell anymore.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat... unless it's someone that's never likely to use Office 365 online for anything. Home and Student is a bucket cheaper than $100 / year for "home".

I just wanted to update I got another Win10 laptop, boots into the repair screen, 3 bootable win10 partitions, black desktop and nothing works...

Fabbed-n-nuked...

Thanks Microsoft.

Feature updates do not change the partition layout, if you've got three active primary partitions it sounds like you've got an OEM image that's just plain bad. MS isn't responsible for companies like Dell screwing things up! That's why I always install fresh on every build.
