I do occasional remote support sessions but not enough to justify purchase of software over 50 bucks. I'm willing to buy but not teamviewer type prices for just occasional support.

Any suggestions on the best free or low cost tools with UAC and remote safemode reboot support?

You might want to think twice about using 'free' remote support tools for professional purposes

Just saying...

I'm willing to pay a small one time fee, or a 'one month' subscription here and there ..... Just don't have nearly enough remote work to justify a grand a year for TV, for example.

You might want to look at a pay as you go service like Techinline or Go To Assist and add the cost to your fees.

Thanks. I dont see UAC listed in the chart, or did I just miss it? I'm a little dyslexic sometimes.

Not there because I'd consider that a minimum. If you have to get the customer to click things then I wouldn't consider it an acceptable (read: "professional") remote support product.

Altrenda's suggestion of Techinline might be just up your alley but both ScreenConnect (my pref) and InstantHousecall are popular choices for one-time-only purchases.

I'm going with Instant Housecall myself. I love the D7 integration with it.

One time purchase is reasonable too.

Wise choice, Instant House call rocks defo one of the best out there.

I like there style of marketing.

:)

Getting ready to do the trial for Instant Housecall for break fix customers. Right now I use GFI Max that has Teamviewer integrated, easy to use for breakfix as well since the initial site creation comes with free time so can take them out before billing period and not charged for them...there are a lot of options available to address this issue...

I use Ammyy all the time, along with Supremo as a backup. No complaints at all about either. Just be sure to customize Ammyy with your own password and feed that to customers to use.

The problem with Ammy is that I find problems getting automatic access after reboot. Do you not get that?

Not really. Just did it last night, but the keyboard didn't enter data for some reason. Just started up the app itself easily enough and switched over to use it. Everything worked fine with it. I also install Supremo as an alternative.

I compiled ChunkVNC, it worked great, but that was several years back. I plan on building it again when I start my business back up.

How do you use Take Control (TeamViewer on GFI Max) to service Break/Fix clients?
Don't you have to install the Agent first? And use your master password for that?

Also I never did find out how long the various options can be left on for initially before GFI start billing.

I never used take control for break fix (i have teamviewer license) but yeah pretty sure you would have to install agent first...you make an installer not the one that requires you to enter the password and stuff.

to my knowledge if you use any feature of gfi in a month you will be billed for it next month. dont think it matters if you only used it for a second.

  • I setup a client in GFI Max called Remote Support with take control turned on
  • Download the agent site installation package with remote worker installer option (no password needed by client).
  • Extract the .exe from the generated agent zip file & save to desired url or public dropbox folder
  • As long as they can receive an email, I have an email template setup in my Thunderbird that contains a link to the agent installer from above step. Worst thing about this part is if they use IE9 or IE10, it gives the warning about this is not a commonly downloaded file and you have to talk them through it.
  • Wait for take control to activate. When I first set this up, take control was activating withing a couple of minutes, but something may have changed recently because I am having to wait for up to a couple of 24x7 cycles and this takes a while. Regardless, the new client should appear instantly on your dashboard with take control pending.

I send my breakfix clients the remote support agent in the remote access menu of the dashboard. As an upsell i usually sell them on the managed agent, monitoring & remote support time :)
