Vista Lover Here!

Please don’t feel bad for me! It’s the antiquated, narrow-minded thinking of those stuck in habit and too lazy to learn a new system that I feel sorry for. Some of you probably fought using that “stupid” mouse that only slowed us down. Windows XP was nasty and most old timers swore they would never leave 98.

My company deals with 99% personal computers and maybe this is the biggest reason for such a drastic difference of opinion. If you told me my manufacturing business had to get software redesigned for Vista that I spent thousands on a few years ago (waiting till all the 98’s died), I guess I would not like Vista.

Truth is that Vista is the easiest system Windows has ever had! For personal computing, you would be nuts not to want Vista. With 20 years of military experience and 10 years private-sector experience training people to use computers, Vista is the easiest to teach and to learn. Just like when we gave up totally using the keyboard and trying the mouse, it's only those who refused to conform and learn that stagnated, washed-out and never could play solitaire.

I know everyone is busy so don’t take this too personal but the number one reason for anyone to hate Vista is ignorance and/or lack of knowledge. If you took 1 or 2 hours training from someone skilled with Vista, you would never go back to XP! My techs are hooked! Backups and file location has never been quicker or easier. We archive an average of 100 backups a month. It was frustrating spending lots of valuable time searching. If you use Start>programs to open your programs, you are working too hard. For people visually impaired to be able to open programs with a few strokes or using voice is heaven sent. Some with shaky hands or who are slow benefit also.

The old fallacies (whining) about programs and software not working with Vista is not true. We install 99% of the over-the-counter software that customers bring in with their new computer setup. With a little effort and knowledge, just about any program made for XP and most made for 98 and even a few made for Win 3.1 & 95, will install and work. We average 20 new computers a week.

If you as a repairperson have a battery of stock programs to run, how could you not LOVE Vista over XP? It saves hours of bench time!

You can keep whining and lie to yourself and your customers. In a year or so your customer will come to you and say “Man, why did you talk me out of this new system?” Now he can be like that old guy on the corner still using dial-up and wondering why it takes forever to open any program because you just upgraded his system from 128mb to 256mb RAM!

Get real…..Vista is here to stay just like XP. And just like with XP the new Microsoft operating system started being developed the day Vista was released. If you are one of those having trouble going from XP to Vista, you are in the wrong business!

I'm predicting 7 pages of comments. Anyone care to wager a bet? Closest without going over!

Hard for me to argue as I still use XP at work, but prefer Vista on my home machine.

Only 1 problem! I no longer have Vista on my home machine!

This post was written using FireFox 3.0.5 on you guessed it....

WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE - Beta 1

I'm guessing not too many will be sucked in by one of those "mine is bigger than yours" posts from some newbie that barely posts once a month. These are always the same - never offering "how to's" - just name calling and contentiousness for no useful purpose.

I see no reason to respond like one of Pavlov's dogs.

Exactly stevenamills, could not have said it better.

I agree 100% with ya.

im just going to quote and defeat the purpose of not responding by making the thread long anyways.

This was almost a good troll topic, but you went slightly over the top with it.

One thing I liked about this site and what I believed what was Bryce’s vision was the learning aspect. Learning from others doing similar work and helping by providing assistance and mentorship through the forums. I have been working with computers as well as training men to use computers for over 20 years in the Army until I retired in 2000. I thought some of that experience could be shared and possibly assist a start-up to realize other income avenues or another way to approach business.

Before you write me off as “newbie” or believe I wrote the post to be quarrelsome or to provoke argument for the sake of arguing, I can assure you I have much more productive things to do in my life. Where I have been since July or how often I post should not matter. What and why I wrote should be questioned. I had just read several posts in “Downgrade Vista to XP”. Talk about shallow, one-sided, arrogant remarks!

I took my business that I charged a $15 house call in 2001 to a $250,000 a year business with over 5,000 regular customers. My wife and I own Serving Online Seniors in Mesa, AZ. We have 2 other employees’, our son and our daughter…. that’s it. We own our 1700 square foot building and we absolutely owe nothing to anyone for anything business or personal. The business has operated in the Black since the end of 2002. We have never paid for advertising ever and have over 5,000 loyal customers. Dozens of computer repair shops have opened and closed in our area over the past 7 years. If I were young and just starting-out, I would put my arrogance aside and ask, ok, “How did you do that?”. This is how I do it when trying anything new!

I found Bryce’s site because I was looking for a way to word our invoices and contractual paperwork. The money spent was well worth the time I saved. This site has assisted us doing things we didn’t know or even think about. This site is a great site to make you think.

I guess bottom line is to keep an open mind. Going through life with blinders on will just sabotage all your dreams and aspirations. I wanted a business and used my military experience, training and Google to quickly build a very sound business. Whether it is a “junior member” or a “senior member”, if they have the information you want or need or share experiences that you can relate to or use to further your goals, grab it!

This summer I received a diagnosis of Fredreichs Ataxia (Muscular Dystrophy) and will have to leave the business soon. I will be extremely proud to give our children what we have built and know it will continue to provide for them and our grandchildren through this bad economy and for many years to come.

BTW...Please tell this ignorant old man (me) what is a troll item?

I think what he meant by "troll item" you could also call bait.

You start with this:
:D Vista Lover Here!

Then you go on to insult every tech who has used Vista and found it to suck.
You basically go on to write a book about how techies who don't like Vista are living in the stone age.

Its pretty obvious to me and everyone else that you are trying to start an argument.

I think everything that can be said about Vista, pro or con has already been said.

Even though you write a novel about how much money you make and how many customers you have you go on to make stupid remarks such as this gem:
"Vista is here to stay just like XP"

You might want to rethink that one. Last I checked Windows 7 is almost here to replace that shitty OS you are so impressed with. Lets look around in seven years and see how many computers are still running Vista shall we.

I agree 100% that Vista is better then XP (with proper hardware), its more stable, better GUI, more features, etc. That said Windows 7 is shaping up to be even better. http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=3236&page=2

Interesting. If its that good out of the box, I cant wait to see how good it will be with a service pack..

I also suspect, if its as good as they say, consumers will flock to it in droves. Should generate a bit of work for us techies :D

Consumers don't really buy new operating systems, or even know what they are for that matter. If someone is smart enough to know they want Windows 7 they're probably smart enough to install it themselves.

Agreed. Most people get what comes with their computer, then after 5-6 years they get a new computer and what ever OS comes with it.

This also seems to hold true with upgrading. Most people might upgrade the RAM at some point, and a very few may get a better graphics card. Almost no one upgrades their CPU or MOBO.

Thats true to a point. However I've had numerous customers ask me whether they should upgrade to Vista particularly where a hardware rebuild or upgrade is involved.

Well said Gunslinger!

The first line did sound like he was throwing a grenade into our crowd to watch us go off. However, after reading the rest it was definitely a non-troll post. I see what hes getting at, when Vista does work properly it is easier for people who dont know Windows well (such as their clients, the elderly). I mean, it tries to install drivers without user intervention and has all sorts of "repair this for me" options.

I personally prefer Macs for the elderly, but in the PC world, Vista isnt a bad option for them either. Its just drives the techs nuts :)

Easy Fella!

I dont know the troll thing, and as a forum Newb with this being my second Whole post, i can say your taking thing downgrade preference way to seriously
It's kind of a "Upgrade Or Die!!" Mentality. what did Marie Antoinette say??
Ahh Yes, "Let them run XP" or something like that??
