Toilet paper nowhere to be found

Yeah, if China is any indicator the next 90 days will be the pain spot, and even then it's fairly localized as the real pain is only 45 days long or so in a given area.

Very thankful that before everything really started. We had bought a 12 pack from Aldi last week. Right before I got paid and people were starting to hoard heavily, my wife saw on Facebook that ruler foods, which for those that don't know, is a Kroger branded competitor to Aldi, had some in stock. So I went out and got 2 more 12 packs. I'll probably go out every few days just to see if any stores have it and grab extra to be on the safe side. Not that I'm going to hoard, but making sure we have a little extra while things play out.

I was looking online though, and some people on eBay and Amazon are price gouging. I may start reporting eBay people doing that. Like one guy trying to sell a 48 pack of Sam's club brand TP for 395 dollars. Really? They were doing buy it now for 1200. I get wanting to make money, but people shouldn't be taking advantage of the current situation.

Nothing wrong with that or your post, but isn't it interesting that "we" get upset about TP and sanitizer price gouging... but the "power elite" and gov't are literally stealing everything to the tune of Trillions of dollars? Just a thought.

Well being realistic, tp is kind of essential these days.

As far as taxes, I'm a conservative myself that believes in many cases less govt is a good thing. In a situation like the current one, I can understand as the govt should protect it's people. But that said, income taxes really became a thing in 1913. You wonder what the founding fathers might have said considering there wasn't a central income tax from the founding of the country until that time, except during the civil war to help fund the army if memory serves.

I do think things like Medicare and social security are good, but it just seems like there are many programs that could be cut so that the budget could be balanced.

Seems like all essentials are still being horded i was at supermarket this morning and all shelves were still empty now including the meat department was bare nothing at all 3 markets i tried in area.
Maybe should start charging customer like this:

Virus malware cleaning : 6 rolls of toilet paper, 5 hand sanitizer, 6 cans of soup, 4 liters of milk , 3 loafs of bread LOL.

Pulled this from WalMart yesterday:

That's actually rather surprising, and I imagine a side effect of something specific to the website and demand for the product that automates a price change without human intervention.

I have no undying love for the Waltons, but they've been very adamant about not gouging nor allowing runs on essentials in their stores. I know that the product shown is still available in my local Wal-Mart as of yesterday and at its normal price, with purchase quantities limited.

Yet another example of stupidity not based on science. And I hasten to add that this is not intended as a swipe at Canada, as Trump shutting down all travel to/from all of Europe is equally stupid.

When the WHO advises that something is ineffective, they're the experts in a position to know. And now that the virus is literally on every continent (save Antarctica, probably) and there is no vaccine nor extant immunity, the only reasonable measures are to do things that attempt to suppress the rate of infection and spread it out over time, and location. This thing is going to run its course, no matter what we do. All we can do is some "shaping" of the infection rate, nothing more.

The thing is last time something like this happened was in our great grandfathers era now this is new to us as well as for the government as they now have to react on they fly to changes Canada and US are keeping trade open though so shipments of essentials supplies keep flowing.

Well, I can't disagree that there are both ambiguity and trade-offs involved in deciding what to do. But too much of it seems, to me, to be entirely knee-jerk and concerned "with the optics" involved, rather than whether what's being done is even likely to be effective.

The NYT article I gave the link to on another topic here does a very good job of expressing just that and that, ultimately, we will never really be sure about whether what we've chosen to do, or not do, has had the desired impact.

I think it's possible to have a huge amount of "social distancing" while still doing a great many of the things we usually do. In some cases, though, the very nature of the acts makes anything even approaching social distancing techniques well-nigh impossible. Right now I feel for checkout clerks in any store that is open and has them, as you can't do that job and have anything approaching the usual social distancing techniques. The same can be said for anyone involved in the airline industry, too.

No kidding guys but a local restaurant is advertising buy 1 burger combo platter get free roll of toilet paper if i get a camera shot will post.
shelves are still empty even tried drugstores all cleaned out.
Its really getting serious guys i have friends from itally

There is now talks locally to ration supplies to prevent people from hoarding food and essentials may go into effect this week.

My sister spent the whole day looking for toilet paper no luck .....

911 call centers have been flooded with calls about people who have run out of toilet paper
An Oregon police department is asking residents to stop calling 911 because they've run out of toilet paper

Here in Illinois they started closing 24 hour Walmarts at 11pm and opening again at 6am. I'm good on tp for at least a week or 2 because we were blessed to score 2 12 packs and had a little left over. But the way people are hoarding, I may hit Walmart at 6 am on the nose to see if I can score a little extra tp and a few extras.

I actually just called there and they said they get the same they get any other night, so 6am is the best time to get there since people are just cleaning off the shelves. If you have a Walmart near you, I would suggest you to consider checking their hours and following suit. I guess if you can't beat em, join em and beat people to the stuff. Then toilet paper especially, hide it in your trunk.
