What do you guys think of my Website? What might be a good thing to add or take off?

Many people will not find you becasue they are used to typing in domain names with .com and not .info This means that people will go to your competitors site instead of yours.

For your site... I sueegest getting rid of the free web hosting and go with a paid host for a small monthly fee. GoDaddy.com for example has $4.99 hosting. A free website = pizza tech

The website as a whole looks thrown together and would need a lot of work if it were to attract me as a customer. In fact I think it might be better in this case to not have a web site at all.

The design of the site aside I would foucs on chaning your wording. There are pharses like "You will have to..." are confrontational and turn people off.

Also the paragraph: "If you would like me to purchase it for you because you aren't comfortable with buying online or don't have a debit/credit card, then you will have to pay for the part in advance. This is because I can't afford to be stuck with a screen if you were to decide that you didn't want me to make the repair and because I can't afford the cost of it." .... Very unprofessional...

Try something like this. "Due to the countless laptop brands and models, all laptop parts are considered special order and will require a full deposit prior to us ordering any parts needed for the repair."

For your site... try re-working the text and phrases... just doing this will take the site to a whole new level and can even make up for what it lacks.

Should I add something about giving them a receipt for the part? What might be good to say.

Also, I've never given anyone a receipt for something so how should I go about doing it?

i agree that website does look very amature-ish and would hurt your rep more than it would help, if it's possible i would download a free html editor like any one of the links below and learn a bit of xhtml (not html as it's going to die) and some cascading style sheets (CSS) and then remake the website, think about trying to word everything very professionally and try not to sound like your just some guy that has a little knowledge, i think that our profession is looked upon in a very professional manner similar to a lawyer, would you hire a lawyer that rocked up in shorts, singlets and thongs?

Pretty dark there Andy. Most "end users" from what I have heard, prefer a light colored background.

Looks fairly simple though, and that's good.

few thoughts, take out this comment in the About section, " I believe that you can trust me with your computer repair needs"...

Rephrase and take out "trust" and the "I believe that"...you know you can do it and, never trust anyone LOL.

Trust is a big word.

I think if you are in college, you could market to the kids. You need a hip site, hip colors and fresh zazz.

Do you plan on marketing at your college?

I like all kinds of music, but I was expecting a movie or voice saying something from you. I clicked that thing, and my study was filled with the sound of country music, and i felt like i'd stepped into a barn dance. LOL.
You need professional help with your website. The site you made is very nice and clean, but it's more of a personal website look. Uhmmm.
You know you would probably do better to just even download a free template of a website (not flash) and change the wording. Places give them away on the net all the time every day. :)
This would be a decent personal site, but I would consider getting a book on website design, or hiring a professional. p.s. a lot of people are finding out their websites (when properly listed with google and using key phrases) send them more business than any other PAID advertising. (not to mention the cheapness of web advertising). I dont want to be to harsh. I think you are a great person, and you obviously have a real passion for the field. So I encourage you to please view everyones criticism in a constructive and positive light. We are here to help. :)

LMAO lol ! It was meant to be kinda like an "easter egg" lol.

As far as paying someone to make me a Website, I so cannot afford that. People want over $400 just to make a simple Website :/

I looked into templates, but couldn't seem to find anything that I really liked.

I've seen a lot worse ;o It doesn't have to be anything fancy. My local competitor's Websites are nothing fancy themselves. Part of my degree requires taking a Website administration class so I will learn more about the stuff later on. I don't feel like investing a bunch of time in learning how to write my own Website by using code :/ :/ I have other priorities

How about making a really nice, professional looking one page website that is an extension of your business card? Nothing wrong with that. Include company name, what you do, service area, services offered and contact info. You can add more pages later.

Do something better than your competition, even if it's just one page. Also, first impressions really do mean something. Give your site a professional appearance.

Oh cool - the one I'm seeing now with the pic of the woman holding a pen looks like a great layout :) Not that I would keep her pic though, but the layout is very nice. I think you're looking in the right direction now.

>> I paid $47 for a years worth of hosting from the host company :/

>> .info only cost $1.07 lol. Their isn't much competition where I'm from. The biggest place near my is Escanaba, which is about 11,000 people.

You may not have much competition in your area but did you look at the domain..... www.andyspcrepair.com

This is whay I mean by your competition. When people put in the .com they will go to Andy in Iowa.... suddenly the person is confused.

Oh and the updated template looks much better.... When I was referring to the free site... . there are links about getting a free site.... this gave me the impression that you are using a free host.

So you think I should have a .com domain ONLY? Those are like $20 bucks and obviously I can't get a .com domain for mine because it's already in use. What do you suggest I do?

You can get a .com for around $10. Try the domain you want and add a dash (or two). Try searching for the domain at godaddy.com and look at the suggestions - you may see something you like.

What I am saying about the domain name is that your name is so similar to another individual doing the exact same thing as you but in a different area. This can lead to confusion.

I didn't see it before the facelift, but it's not looking too bad right now.

I for some reason find the picture of the hand swabbing the fan blade with the Q-Tip a bit unsettling......

Try renaming the "My Favs" list page to something like "Recommended Software", and adding a bit of text with each program to describe in some way how it would be of benefit to the potential customers browsing your website. They would likely have no idea what "true crypt" is and might be hesitant to click the link.

What are your intentions with this? Are we talking temporary for beer money or whatever? Or, is this something that you hope to expand into a thriving small business?

For maybe a few years. My teacher says the PC Tech will probably go the way of the TV repair man. You can go buy a brand new computer for relatively cheap. And PC Techs don't make much unless they do small business work. I'm nowhere near ready to support a small business. If I can fix around 2 computers a week then I'll be pretty damn content.

I just want a source of income while I'm in college studying Network Support and Security. I'd like to work for someone else later on. Where I live the population is pretty low at less than 20,000 in the surrounding areas so I don't think their will be a large demand for a PC Tech. Maybe I'm wrong, idk.

Funny your teacher mentions the TV Repair Man. I repair TV's and make more money at that than I do with computers. Anyways, I think your ok with your site. As mentioned previously, change My Fav's to something else. Lighten that site up a bit.

Your story of being a student actually scares me quite a bit as your potential customer. Maybe I am a bit too harsh and the only suggestion I have is to get rid of all of the nitty gritty details regarding this. Ok, your a student - I would just leave it at that.

As far as what your doing with your money from this... no customer or potential customer has any business knowing any of this.

It's terrible I'm afraid.

Forget worrying about the URL. That is the least of your problems.

Read up on site design and basic marketing/advertising.

It really isn't. I'm not a huge global company and I'm not a Rockefeller so I'm pretty sure it's pretty decent considering I'm only offering a limited number of services to a small population of people. I've seen quite a few PC Tech repair sites that are a whole lot worse than mine. Mines nice and clean and right to the point like it should be. I don't think people are gonna care if my site isn't as fancy as fricken CNN.com or w/e.

Look you came here asking for advice. People are trying to help you. If you don't want and value honest opinion then don't ask for it.

I think the site is poor. Not because it's not as fancy as CNNs but because of the layout, photos and more importantly the message. It doesn't follow the tried and tested rules of web design, marketing or advertising. It's not a reflection on you as a human, it's just not a good site.

But hey, if you know best and you're getting good business from it, then all credit to you. I'm no expert.
