I was one of the users who won the SAS Pro subscription earlier this year and I was wondering... is it possible (or worthwhile) to load my version of SAS onto a usb drive to use as a portable scanner? Or would I maybe be better off using the free SAS already included with D7, for example?

Also, what is the agreed-upon most efficient and effective way to scan customer PC's for viruses? Pop their drive into your bench PC and scan from inside YOUR OS, or use portable scanners and scan from within THEIR OS?

Thanks in advance!!

The free SAS that normally you would run on a customer's computer is the free-for-anyone version and it gets installed. The version that D7 accesses is the one that requires you to have purchased a SAS Technician's license to use. That's why, the first time you run it in D7, it asks you to confirm that you are entitled to use it. Otherwise, I believe you're violating the SAS EULA.

The Tech version is the only portable version available.

Maybe forget about SAS and use the kaspersky virus removal tool. Out of all the removal virus scanners this one finds a removes the most. The plus side is that it is a single file that installs then scans and when you close it it is removed from the computer. So no manual install or uninstall, just click run and close.
