A customer's iTunes is broken.

Issue: The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannotn be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.

Tried the following:

1) Moved iTunes Library.itl out of iTunes folder and restarted iTunes.

2) Plugged in ipod, canceled sync and
2a) Transferred purchased items.

3) Still receiving message The iPod is synced with another computer, do you want to erase this ipod?

4) Looking to keep playlists and general ipod structure intact.
How do I do this?

5) Tried to Register an Apple ID to ask this question on Apple Support forum and received message.
""An unexpected error has occurred. Please note the exception listed below and try again. PageNotFound: No mapping found for HTTP request with this URI""

6) Called Apple support and they said they can't help me since I don't actually own an Apple product. They also said they haven't heard of anyone else having trouble registering Apple ID's.

7) Still stuck with original problem and an Apple ID that's stuck in limbo, with no Apple support. Can't even ask for password with out an error.

You dont mention if you tried to download and install the very latest iTunes on top of the old one. That error usually comes up when you try to use an iTunes music library with an older installation of iTunes.

No I haven't tried installing the latest version of iTunes. (This time)

My understanding is that upgrading iTunes to the latest version doesn't fix the problem because iTunes is already newer than the iTunes Library.

^^^^ this should really have been the first thing to try, or there should be a repair option in iTunes or uninstall programs via windows control panel.
I always see loads of errors from not updating.

I think you got it reversed.

The few times I experienced this in the past it was always because the customer updated iTunes.

The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.

I am being told that the opposite is most likely true, that iTunes is too old, not too new?

I'm just gonna walk away. Good luck.

I'm out, too. I assumed you had tried a reinstall. First thing to do. Takes five minutes and fixes most problems. Also, as a tech, you should know that you can't always trust the error msg.

iTunes needs updated. Very simple explanation is an older version was installed on top of a newer iTunes library and not updated and that's why there is the error. I literally see this error all the time before running updates on data transfers. Nothing to see here. I can't believe this thread has gone on this long.

It's like you're deliberately trying not to fix it with the most obvious solution. It's like if the error message was "Files not contiguous. Please defragment." And you replied with 8 other things you've done and "No, I've not defragmented. (this time)"

did they happen to do a system restore maybe? it sounds like they had an older version, installed a newer version of it, then at some point did a system restore back to when it was the older version...

Years messing around with iTunes, and I've never come across a straightforward update from within iTunes itself.

Ever.

It always fails for some reason.

Dload iTunes, run it, click repair, crack open a beer.

I hate Itunes. Why can you buy something from the itunes store. Then heaven forbid you have a hd crash and even though they have a record of your purchases you can redownload the purchases. This happened to my son a couple of years ago.

I'm sorry, I don't understand that post..

One of the best ways to repair iTunes is to extract the installer package and run each setup file separately. I don't know why this works, but I've had to do it numerous times to fix errors with it, especially when a simple uninstall or repair install doesn't work.

iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases

Repairing and then reinstalling iTunes didn't work on the old computer. iTunes Package installer told me the installer was corrupt. I even downloaded twice.

Moving on.

Each person has their own Brand New Laptop, so I transferred the iTunes Library for each user into the appropriate computer, after downloading iTunes.

One computer's iTunes Account can only access half of their content.
"iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases"

I have authorized their account and their sister's account, but nothing actually authorizes the account even though iTunes says it has authorized.

I believe the purchases that don't play are tied to their sister's account.
All purchases are playable on his iPod, so I know it did work before iTunes broke.

I'm looking online for solutions but their are 101 things that might fix this problem. I've already spent hours trying to get iTunes to work correctly.
What do people recommend?

I researched this problem and tried Apple fixes to no avail.

Does anyone know of a good resource for Apple iTunes Authorization problems?
Only half of the music plays.

If you have activated both accounts. The songs that wont play, will ask you to activate....is the email in the box that comes up the same as one of the previous accounts? If not then there is a third account. If it is I have no solution for that.

Also for your very first question there is a solid completely easy answer.. delete the itunes library file, select a song from the library, press ctrl-a, then delete. Remove from library NOT HARD DRIVE. Then you add the directory where music is located under add folder....and viola. That has worked for me in the past.

No need to screw with updates or downgrades or anything. Plus everything will still be authorized to play in iTunes.

My first solution was hastily written with out completely reading. I apologize.
