As many of you know I am going to be venturing out for more side work that isn't family/friends related. My prices were usually lower as family/friends and a little higher for non F/F. This is what I am thinking, let me know your feedback.

Tune Up 79.99 /109.99

Consultation: $99.99 can be applied to future work

Hourly Rate: $59.99 / $99.99

I don't know of your area will support it, but I would think strongly about the flat fee in site. I bill hourly on site for two reasons

1) it coverss ass if I get a tuneup or virus removal that takes hours

2) most people will choose to have me take it and I make $400+ per hour on my bench

Just food for thought

Best suggestion (IMO) is to set prices competitive to your area. Each area is obviously different; here in rural Penna our pricing is lower than what you have listed.

I also follow more of a flat rate schedule for most repairs. I feel it gets confusing for the customer to have many different prices/repairs to choose from.

cmos battery replace - $59.00? I could never get away with that around here. That's why I throw in virus scan/optimize, all for a flat $79. Intensive work, motherboard replace or something like that would be more, however.

those prices will work in mass they are comparable to mine. i would get rid of the lower price for friends and family. The always ask for more than regular customers

Or add on a lot more remote support for the basics like tuneups and virus removals...then you can bill out many a day and knock 'em out while you have other bench work going on.

Pricing looks fair to me in any market.

If you are new and not well known I would lower your diag fee until you build up a rep and are well known for results. $29 to $59 might be better until you can really justify it.

The biggest turn off for potential customers is the diag fee unless they feel its worth it. Of course I don't know if you are doing on site and if this price is inclusive of travel.

Your prices seem pretty fair to me. I may lower the diagnostic a tad at least at first.

Essentially it's there to keep the tire kickers away or the DIY'ers from having you figure out the problem and them fix it themselves. Most diag's shouldn't take up a lot of your "hands on time" and even then most shouldn't take up a lot of bench time either. So I'd go somewhere around $29.99/$49.99 (offsite/onsite).

As far as onsite work goes, I'd put in some sort of fee for jobs that are out of the way. Say more then 30 miles or 30 min away from you. Let them know that if you make the trip, they will be charged the diag fee either way.

Looks pretty good otherwise.

I think your prices are reasonable. But as others have said you need to look around at the prices of your competition.

A few questions/comments/analysis.

1. Up near the top you give an example of a repair, installing a cmos battery, where the customer would diag fee and you mentioned the $30 part install fee. Part installs should only occur on a machine that is booting with no errors so replacing a cmos battery should not fall under that category. I'm not clear on your logic in that case.

2. Basic setup and Premier setup. Ok, so Basic setup pricing is OK for onsite. But for Premier you want to add a s/w title, java/adobe (is that both or either?), AND 20GB data transfer. All for the same price as what you would charge just for a data transfer onsite? That problematic.

3. In my opinion there are certain services that should not be done onsite, at least as flatrate pricing. Those include Malware removal, bare metal OS installs, OS re-installs, and data transfers. There are far too many variables that you can walk into. An example. I had a ransom malware a few weeks ago. The guy had a HP Pavlion 752n (10 years old). Booted from KRD and it took over an hour and a half just to scan 20 gb of data.

4. Mark up from bench to onsite. I would make it a consistent X dollars more for everything.

5. Don't be afraid to standby your prices. There are plenty of retail customers that will try to badger service providers to lower their prices. And there is a difference between giving an existing customer a discount and dropping your prices just to try to get a new customer in the door.

Changed Price of Premier to 119.99 bench 159.99 onsite

Changed Diag to 49.99, I will be servicing certain towns. If you are outside of that zone I will add X Charge thinking $29.99 to $39.99

If you are new and not well known I would lower your diag fee until you build up a rep and are well known for results. $29 to $59 might be better until you can really justify it.

The Onsite Diag fee includes travel provided it is in my area. An additional fee may be required outside of my area.

Or add on a lot more remote support for the basics like tuneups and virus removals...then you can bill out many a day and knock 'em out while you have other bench work going on.

I am unsure on the remote support at this point. This is something I would want to get some business first before going that exact route. This is also something I would target to more of a SMB.

those prices will work in mass they are comparable to mine. i would get rid of the lower price for friends and family. The always ask for more than regular customers

Thanks Rosco

I doubt most guys are going to do a diag and only charge for the part + replacement if it less than doing a diag. Retail general rule of thumb = diag done than for example if bad PSU, replace psu for diag + part not part + install

I am thinking of hourly rate minus a few things. That being said I have increased the onsite rates of Tune Up to 119.99 Virus Removal 159.99 & VR + Tune Up 199.99

System Restores / OS Installs & Data Transfers will be charged at hourly rate

Have you looked at your competition in your area? What are they charging as well.

But your prices look fair to me.

Again hard to tell most don't actually put the info on their ads or websites. Mostly pizza techs are the only ones advertising prices
