I'd be really interesting to see what everyone's work area looks like. I'll start by posting mine.

New%20Bench%20Pix640.jpg

Picture is 10 yrs old. Hardware has changed, but the space has remained the same since 1991. With the KVM I can work on 4 at a time without moving. On the rear corner to the left, out of view is my bench machine for duplicating drives etc.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.:D

Seeing some of yours make me go crazy! This is what I like on TN though, larger business owners integrate well with self-employed ones.

I work as a part time tech business owner, and as a full-time reduced hours with another company (not related to the computer repair business). I've started doing this since 2008 (I'm 27) when I was unemployed. In simple terms, started something instead of wasting my life. Already took some Cisco courses at the time, and took things seriously.

My problem at the moment is space and time. Since I only do this work on a part-time basis, I only get few hours in a day, and I only have a corner in a (bed)room to work at.

I can work on around 2 (3 if they're small) desktops and around 5 - 7 laptops at the same time. Laptops however have to sit all around the room on other things (so any jobs that require disassembling would reduce the amount to around 3 laptops). I use my PC to assist me, an old Linksys router as a switch, and a 2-way KVM switch for the desktops. I also managed to put in an air compressor and just got myself a hot air station that is still boxed, which will also stay next to my PC. I use a Buffalo 2-bay NAS in RAID1 config (that is in another room) for backups.

I also have some shelves on the other side of the room I'm using as storage.

I'd like to setup a proper bench, however the only 'unused' room my family has is at the second floor, having to go up and down with heavy desktop systems 2 stories every time.

I took these today, just for you guys and gals.

This is our hardware testing area set on a 4 port KVM.

This is a work area. There are two 2 port KVM, a tech machine and room for 4 laptops.

The other primary work area. Same set up.

This is my museum. There is an Apple from 1984. A Pentium 60 tower. A Zenith dual 3.5 floppy laptop. etc...IMG_20150125_165300545_HDR.jpg
This is what you see when you walk in if you took two steps to your left. The sun was making things difficult.

That is were we store the machines that (shhhh...) WE HAVE BUILT. They are ready to go.

This is a picture of the store from behind the front counter. I did avoid pictures of my work area so it does not get placed on the EPA list of dumps.

Here you go, pics of our work area. 3/4 of the space is used for a bench and parts. The last 1/4 ( the messy desk) is used for office work, sales and marketing and things like that. I threw in a pic of the front of our building (my son was organizing goodie bags for a down town Derry Trick or Treat business event) and a pic of the obnoxious snow bank taking up half my parking lot. Here in NH we have gotten about 2 more feet since the picture was taken.

Work area? I wish...
I have ram in the kitchen draws, cases & power supplies in the bedroom, server in the lounge room, computers in the dinning room, mobo's processors & cards everywhere, got stuff in the car, monitors in the garage, cords cables cds dvds hard drives fans etc etc all over the place.
My work area is where ever I can find a power outlet free at the time.

This thread makes me want to get organized with a nice bench. Maybe even a little tech station for testing parts.
We have an actual office and still both cars are loaded, every corner of my garage has something, my bedroom is still a second office/storage/dumping ground :)

We're making some changes also. A little too much green I think. Some paint, large print photos and a few end cap solutions are in order.
I'm gonna work on some ideas over the weekend. Here's a quick before and after mockup.
