Pics of your Work Areas!

Made some changes! Wanted to share some updates. I'm so excited. Spent the past few days and painted the far wall in the tech room a beautiful blue that matches our color scheme. The accent blue to the white definitely gives energy to the room.

In addition to the accent wall, I moved the LCD monitors down on the board which allows them to slant downward so we don't have to look up at them anymore. You'll also see on the left, i mounted up a whiteboard. Next up I'm going to get 1 or 2 bar stools for the tech bench. The bar stools will be a little higher than the blue swivel chair which will help for techs that aren't as tall as me.

That looks great, Mike! Love the wall mounts, keeps the bench nice and clean.

Working out of the home myself at the moment, I've only got a small corner in the basement. I might post when I remember to take a picture.

here is my new storefront repair shop.

Yeah that's much better. I really like blue and it makes for a great accent color.

Funny you say that. While we were setting up a person came in and asked if it was a wine tasting bar. Signs were not up yet.

I see a few of you have your monitors customer facing. What's your opinion on this? I prefer them to face the wall. Personally I don't wan't anyone seeing what I am exactly doing. Also lets us see the door and people when they walk in.

My craphole is laid out all wrong since it's so tiny and my laborer (the husband) won't rearrange it. Customers can not only see what I'm working on, they walk right up to my bench and move stuff around. One lady brought coffee and dripped it all over the floor and bench. I teeter between calm and ape$%&@, so I try to remain calm in those situations. There's one man who routinely picks up the invoices on machines and reads them like the paper.

Long story short, I'd prefer to keep the monitors where the customers can't see them.

I have no issue with customers seeing what I do.

The front area computer is at an angle. Customers can sort of see whats on the screen. But I'm not going to be pulling anything up that's sensitive while with a customer.
My home office setup was with my back facing the door. But I had to let people in so it was a little different.

You've got a lot of patience to allow someone to do that. If a customer here picked up someone else's invoice, the first time would be a "dude what the heck are you doing" kind of thing. Second time would be a more harsh, "Sorry but we can't allow you to look at customer invoices, I will have to ask you to leave if you continue." Third time would be a direct dismissal. I'm polite but firm about that kind of stuff.

workbench1 (Medium).jpg workbench2 (Medium).jpg workbench3 (Medium).jpg workbench4 (Medium).jpg We put in some counter tops in the service area over the weekend.
Picked up a couple of 10' counters and 4x Gladiator work cabinets from Lowes. Total cost around 900. For workstations 'n laptops. We built the servers in our other room, once we have that reorganized...I'll post pics there. We're currently juggling around our offices since we just picked up a 4th suite. First suite is our office manager and service bench, second suite is my colleague and I, as well as our sorta recently hired 3rd onsite engineer. Third suite is for our servers and storage. Recently acquired fourth suite is where our 3rd engineer will move to, as well as interns 'n...down the road...a 4th engineer.

Those gladiators are nice aren't they? We got a couple as well. I prefer the Huskys myself though. Either way, they really get the job done.

Looked at those, the Husky's, and...Kobalts....
Our tech wanted 3x drawers though, which the other 2 ..from what we found, only had combo cabinet doors/drawers. So these won. Quite a bit of assembly but once built, very solid.

here's a few pics of my workshop. the main room is about 7x5 metres. there is also a tiny kitchen/bathroom through the folding door.

I've thought about using those shelving units as workbenches as well. How are you liking them? Are they sturdy enough to work on one of those giant custom-built machines that l33t gam3rs like to build?

they work well for me. i was actually in the store collecting timber to build my benches when i came across these. i price compared and discovered these are cheaper for essentially the same result and a lot less work. they're quite strong and stable. only thing is i had to raise the height by 100mm to bring them to the "correct ergonomic height" for computer work.
