Outlook 365 (2016) defaulting to mail.cpanel.net after repair, is that normal?

Surprisingly I don't get a lot of outlook issues these days, not because its great software but because so many of my clients just use webmail and their phone. I couldn't even find where to change the imap settings without going through the little repair thing but each time it defaults to mail.cpanel.net surely thats not normal right? It doesn't appear that the domain is supplying that information for the auto discovery but I could be mistaken?

One of the first thing Outlook checks for auto-discovering settings is the root domain lookup - https://mydomain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
I have noticed recently that cpanel sites seem to be implementing that root domain lookup more than they used to. It has started interfering with some of our clients Office365 setup because all of a sudden they put up a website that has this feature enabled, but not properly configured then later on they open outlook and have connectivity issues.

Not sure what email service your using so not sure if that is the correct setting for it to pull or not. If you think its an issue, you should investigate the cpanel side and make sure its configure properly to forward to the correct mail service or see if it can be disabled completely and use an alternative like the autdiscover DNS record, or use a registry key on the client side to ignore the root domain lookup:

Most cpanel sites have a setting for external email that must be turned on if you are using the same site for your NS and DNS. Otherwise, cpanel will change your MX records to add the local server. Sounds like this is what is going on. The problem is on the server end, not the client.
