What steps do you guys do to optimize a computer!

Additionally, does anyone know what GEEKSQUADS "over 100 system tweaks that will shorten your computer's boot time, delete unwanted files and remove unnecessary background processes." are? or is it just a bunch of random bs that can be accomplished using CCleaner?

Yea, its probably along the lines of 'turn off services, turn off eye-candy, uninstall some windows components/programs, topped off with a disk clean and defrag..'

Btw, that will be $200 thanks

I have 2 different packages I offer. A basic cleanup speedup and a more in depth one. The basic package includes cleaning of temp files ,cookies, internet history, running chkdisk, and a defrag. As well as scanning the registry for problems and a virus/spyware scan. The more in depth package includes all that plus disabling services, turning off drive indexing, uninstall windows components/programs, speeding up the start menu, turning off the compress old files feature, among other things. With the more in depth package I can usually get about an extra 30-40 % speed increase over stock windows.

Gunslinger, how do you handle you defrags if sometimes they take a couple hours to optimize? Are you at their home or do you take their PC back to a shop?

Two things: first of all the GeekSquad CD is basiclly just some reg tweaks and batch files thrown together with a GUI. I'm sure most techies on here could throw one together in a few hours.

Second thing: If a system is very badly fragmented I'll ask to take it back to the shop.
