Need a Windows boot measuring prog

Would someone please suggest a freeware or open source program that enables not just measurement of the total time taken to boot a computer, but the time each component takes.

I have used Bootracer to tell me that it's slow but having looked at installed programs & startup services, scanned for malware, reviewed event logs, and chkdsk/SFC I am still at a loss as to why this i7 with 12 GB RAM is taking well over a minute to start. Once started it seems sluggish too but that's less of a concern for the owner.

Glary is is certainly good, but are you sure it can measure the contribution that each component contributes to boot time ? I have not been able to find that. Thanks for the reply though.
 
Probably not... but not everything on boot can be quantified by something like this.

For instance I have a Home Theater PC that boots from an SSD, it still boots somewhat slow because it also has a raid to initialize.
 
There once was a Microsoft tool called "Bootvis" that does what you describe - unfortunately long since discontinued. You might try to find an old version on the interwebs.
 
What HDD is it running? I often find that a system like this is laggy simple because of a slow HDD.
As for measuring boot of each component, you would need to hook into it at BIOS level to get and accuracte picture, and no windows software can do that at boot up.
what are the complete specs and models of components? Maybe we can see a problem with the config...
How long does BIOS take vs windows boot? If BIOS is fast, you may be looking at a windows issure, not a hardware issue.
How old is the install? Does it do the same thing on a fresh, clean install? If yes, then hardware is the culprit.
 
my HTPC takes ages to POST because of all the external USB drives which it insists on accessing.
if it is slow windows startup time, i'd be using msconfig to selectively switch stuff off and compare the bootups.
 
Check out XBootMgr
Also WinBootInfo seems in the same ballpark, although I only found it on Tucows & similar. Trying to go to the developers website crashed my browser & caused my AV to flip out. Don't think I'll be trying this one.

I'm curious as to your definition of component in this context and also your definition of the time a component takes to start. The more I think about this problem, the less I see how it's possible to come up with a definitive answer, certainly using strictly automated techniques. I think you'll need to start a process of elimination. Use autoruns to examine your startup programs and start switching off said programs to see how they impact startup times.
 
TL;DR > Its a pity that boot.log isnt timed like the linux startup screen

IS it checking for
media in card reader slots - some flag as bootable - sorry glennd ^^ missed your post
media in attached printers - ditto
USB peripherals that are off \ disconnected
mapped drives
generic shares

wifi connecting

AV resource heavy \ misconfigured \ auto update -
Outlook loading up & auto check mail on startup
A million files stored on desktop?
A shed load of updates to download in bckground
Samsung smart tv Allshare searching
Searching network for new media devices
Media player network share
All \ Any of these waiting for the network to set up

Missing entries in startup \ deleted programs in registry - check with autoruns for those yellow not founds

Miconfigurred BIOS settings - who knows what the user has done?
If you got time to burn clone the drive and boot from the known good clone ....

Have you tried using Process Monitor to research your problem?

In Process Monitor under the Options menu you will find the option to "Enable Boot Logging" after you restart the machine open Process Monitor again and save the boot-time activity log.
