Has anyone tried this yet? Am downloading it now to give it a look through!
Website says it can preform a offline scan for malware and rootkits.

It has 64bit and 32bit ISO's available for download as well, or the download program can transfer the data directly to a CD or USB drive.

Is this the same product as 'Windows defender offline' that was in beta towards the end of last year - WDO had an interface that looked very much like MS Security Essentials but booted and ran from a CD/DVD, it also allowed you to update the defs via the network.

I've used WDO a few times on infected macines and it worked ok, though it couldn't fully remove a zero access root kit I had on a machine the other week.

I'll download this new release and give it a try - always nice to have another tool in the chest.

Yep, after I downloaded and ran it, its Windows Defender Offline! I couldnt find any options to update the defs though, how do you go about doing that?

I believe it is under the Help (?) drop down menu and will give you the option to check for updates or manually update. To manually update - you must pre download the current set from here: http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Definitions/ADL.aspx#sweeper32

Have used it.....it's not one of my first "go-to tools" though. But I've had it find/clean things that the other usual big guys miss.
