You could check the logic board for any signs or corrosion as this seems to may be related to the Apple hardware which gets accessed when booting apple OSs

I would personally program a new firmware. You also need to transfer the me region from the original firmware (so back it up).

If you're uncomfortable with or are not experienced with a bios programmer then I would advise buying one of these chips which bypass the soldered on firmware:
