Greetings,
I'd like to make a semi serious post about the increase usage of the listed site. While it is great for the novice who doesn't even know how to use a search engine we here on the forum are not novices and do not need to be treated as such. There is no difference between doing a normal search for what you want, copying the address bar of the results page, and pasting that as a link/url on a response to a thread. That is the professional way and it is faster, doesn't waste others time and doesn't come off as arrogant and snotty.
For those of you who are going to say "I'm showing them how to search and how to use google" well that is fine if they have less than say 10 posts but other than that, treat other members as you would like to be treated and don't belittle them and waste their time with cutesy search sites (unless you get paid to post them, lol). For the most part I think most members here do do a adequate job of searching before posting for help.
Another issue is the semantics of the post. I remember a post I made asking why no Ipods had AM/FM/Digital tuners and if it seemed strange or inconvenienced anyone else. Prior to posting I had searched for at least 30 minutes and had found the nano with an FM tuner (but I listen to AM 70% of the time) and found that no other Ipods had radio capability. I made a pretty detailed post giving possible reasons as to why they didn't include them but they had the capability.
Well, the first reply was cocky and arrogant and led to a "LMGTFY" and he only put in "Ipod + FM + Radio" which immediately yeilded the Nano, of which I was aware. The following posts were arguments telling me that I was basically lazy and hadn't done my "work" before posting. Again, the response was handled very unprofessionally and when I called him out he cried that I was hiding behind "semantics" but the original post is the original question..
All in all, I've seen this with a number of other posts but the members usually don't stand up for themselves for fear of rocking the boat or whatever. I say there is a time and place for "LMGTFY" and it would be in the beginners forum or a novice forum, not a Computer repair business, professionals forum. That is just like laughing in the persons face..
