LCD replacement question

I have a coworker with a Compaq F700 that began having display issues, flickering at first, then white lines only. He purchased a new LCD from an ebay seller and asked me to replace the screen. I have only replaced 2 screens and both of those went on with no problem.

After replacing the screen and powering the computer the screen is lit but has no display. I reseated all the cables and tested with an external monitor (which works fine). Still only lights up. I told him that we need to replace the LCD cables next. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Definitely the cable is the next test, ebay probably has them for $10 to $25 dollars.

I guess

I have to take his word about ordering the correct screen. The laptop itself displays through an external monitor.

Does the screen show the POST information then go blank?

If so this is often an issue with the inverter board. I don't know the model off-hand but the inverter board is often located on the main section (not the LCD part) and is between the hinges that connect the main section to the LCD section.

Hope this helps

I am not sure if it has an NVidia chipset, I'll have to check tomorrow (I left it at the fire station until his new cable comes in). I didn't think to check the dv6000 issue, but this does show up on an external monitor, I thought the dv6000 problem did not.

No post information, just a glowing black/blue screen.

I thought if it gets power that the inverter board is good, as I said I am fairly new to laptop hardware. The screen definitely changes brightness during the boot process, so it is getting power.

Thanks for all the assistance

At School we have had a high amount of HP/Compaq Dv series laptops coming in with dead screens. One happened to still be under warranty so I call HP, and they stated it was a MB problem.

This model does not appear to be included in the recall.

"dv2000/dv6000/dv9000 and Compaq Presario V3000/V6000"

I guess I'll have to hope it is the LCD cable, as unlikely as that is.

I can confirm that the F700 has a fail board. I was able to get HP to replace one before, still have 1 in a box that they would not replace.
