Instant Housecall First Experience

After reading many positive reviews for Instant Housecall, I signed up for a trial account and started using it today. I currently use Logmein Rescue.

I used IH for the first time today: I have 4G LTE internet with speeds in the 10-20Mbps and my client has cable. The speed was terrible with very poor screen drawing rates. The screen refresh command did not do anything. I had to launch my clients LogmeIn Rescue calling card and connect that way and dump the IH connection. The LMIR was fast and smooth as it usually is.

I am not giving up on IH (I love the idea of the D7 integration, and I use D7 a lot) and intend to use for the full trial time. I understand this could have been a one-off, but we'll see.

Dave,

Im loving IHC at the moment, ive had the odd 1 slow session but so far im impressed. (The Slowness may have been caused by routine maintenance that was planned.)
and this has not bothered me as im still able to get tasks done.

I love the fact that i no longer have to ask customers to disable their anti-virus software because my other remote software kept getting blocked on download or install. So it was areal pain.

My clients seem to like the software, and we enjoy the chat which is a great.

I am very sure IHC will grow and it will be the best of the best. I have tried quite a few remote support, but for some reason i came back to IHC.
Its very user friendly and unique, which i felt fits my business.:)

give it another shot dave. Im sure you will grow to like it.

Thanks Corey, I've got a couple of other sessions planned weekend and I want to see how those go, but if I'm still having trouble, I will definitely be in touch.

BTW, how do you go about customizing the integrated D7? I have my own standalone D7 and I would like to use that profile with the IH D7, any way to do that?

Legacy,

I understand that a bad session can happen no matter the software, so will use IH for the full trial period before passing judgement. It has a lot of potential.

Thanks,

David

Customizing Remote d7 is easy, especially since you're already familiar with d7. Configure it through the user interface and changes you make are automatically saved for future sessions.

We don't have an automated migration between Bench d7 and Remote d7 right now. You can configure your existing apps as described above and they'll persist on all of your Instant Housecall sessions.

If you have an existing elaborate Bench d7 config or just don't mind getting your hands dirty, you'll find some files on the Specialist's computer in %PROGRAMDATA%\InstantHousecall\d7Config that will let you do what you want to do. Configs created this way are not officially supported.

I do my best to respond in the Technibble forum, but the best way to get support is to call or e-mail support@instanthousecall.com.

I've been playing around more with IH, mainly using computers in my lab to connect to.

It does seem to be working better now. When I launched the client app from the portal in IE and then connected with my specialist computer, once the connection was made, I had a recurrence of the screen redraw issue, until I closed IE remotely, then everything worked fine.

Also I do not find any D7 config data in ProgramData on my specialist PC...

Followup

So had another Instant Housecall remote session with an actual client and for the most part it went smoothly.

Connection was snappy and speedy enough (slight lag, but client was on spotty 3G connection) to resolve the problem he was having.

Unfortunately, when I went to exit the session (possibly while I was entering notes) the Specialist module crashed. It had never done this in any of my test sessions or last live client session. I restarted it and the connection resumed (nice to know it recovers well!) and crashed again while I was entering new notes. I had checked box to remove software from client's computer, but I don't know for certain it happened (waiting to hear from client on that).

I have been considering signing up for IH trial, am almost ready, didn't want to start the trial until around when I could afford to continue it. I was wondering, and if this has been said and I missed it, is IH based on VNC?

If this is the case then I have on occasions experienced the slow refresh rate and response with certain calls I have had to use it on. First impression was port conflict problems with some people?

I decided to install Team viewer and put it to the test with IHC. Every thing seems pretty good speed wise, but i prefer IHC. To many bloated features in Team Viewer and compared to the business license they offer. I feel IHC was a better deal for me.

Also most support tools use VNC of sometype as this was the first original software developed in cambridge in the UK. Then it was imported and companies started rolling out their own flavours etc. UltraVnc rocks for me and works great when setup correct. I also have a linux and mac version.

On a side note, I have been using IHC for a while and i really enjoy the the remote sessions. My clients love the easy install. No problems with virus software and i use the catch any problems just give me " A House Call ". :)
