HP Smart Array P420

Hello,

I've just picked up the following:

HP Smart Array P420 without the 1GB cache module.

Am I right in thinking I can run this without the cache module?

Yes you should be able to, you'll just be limited to raid 0 or 1 and no raid 5 or 6.

On a side note I have a 512mb cache module that should work with the p420 if you want buy it? Not sure what they cost in the uk??

Hey, just checked and it won't actually work on the P-Series RAID cards sorry.
It's for the B-Series the cache that I have.

ahh Ok no worries.

I'm probably only going to be running RAID 1 anyways. Plus I'm sure the price would of been more than I actually paid for the card!

Just following up on this... The HP P420 does indeed need the FBWC installed to work. You can't run it in ZMR.

Got my card secondhand and it didn't come with one. I've just ordered a 2GB module with battery.

As somebody already pointed out: yes, you have to have the cache module in place. If your last provider didn't work out, let us know - we may have it in stock, or may be able to source it if we don't have it on hand.
