Hobbies Thread

Funny you bring whittling up its part of what drove me to knives I used to randomly whittle when I was young wouldn't mind trying to do some real whittling these days with my knives. I may collect knives but I refuse to own a safe queen if you can't use it whats the point? I did already break this rule with a knife I bought that has a blade length of .6 inches but it is fully functional just don't see it being used anytime ever.

Ah, right, in a lot of cities there are regulations on knives with blades longer than 3"/7.5-8cm and whether they're carried visible or concealed. I've not really heard of them being enforced in years (decades?), last time was when "butterfly knives" became a thing while I was in high school.

Of course, that was back in the days when you could actually bring a pocketknife to school; these days I get the feeling that for a lot of schools showing up with round-tipped safety scissors could get you expelled from most schools in the USA.

I read some time ago that a kid in these parts got expelled because she had forgotten to take a toe nail clipper out of her bag. This zero tolerance stuff is beyond out of control.

Photography is my other love...primarily landscape.

I used to be Canon, but I recently made the switch to Sony mirrorless. The controls are much less intuitive but the low-light results are much better.

Somewhat related, I make it a point to set the desktop backgrounds of systems I work on to landscape photos (not mine), because people find them nice and calming.
Wow! That first image is stunning! If I ask really nicely do you think I could get a copy for my desktop? Please...
Love "dark themes" for wallpaper!

My Daughter is a Chef and has some very clear cut rules regarding carrying knives to from the restaurant. As long as they are wrapped in the knife roll and not concealed on her person she is ok.
Although if stopped by Police there would be some explaining to do!

My "hobby" is writing poetry, verse, (especially "Bush Ballads") stories and songs.
Had one of my poems set to music and got some airplay on a local community radio station.
When my Daughter was growing up we were very heavily involved in Pony Club, Show Jumping, Eventing, Gymkhana's etc.
Used it as inspiration, along with daily life, teenage heartbreak, young love etc...

I spend most of my free time (other than family) playing PC games, but one of my offline hobbies is Lockpicking/Locksport. I found it tends to be a fairly common hobby among computer techs because the next step of digital security is physical security. Its pretty similar to any other puzzle hobby.

You'll be surprised how easy most locks are to pick, in fact, my wife can take down a Masterlock no 5 (a strong lock designed to resist physical attacks like bolt cutters/hammers) in about 5 seconds.

It's interesting...seems like most of us have very similar hobbies...

Common threads: motorcycles/flying, problem solving things like video games & locks, and other techie things like cameras (might as well be little computers) and photography. We all seem to like animal companions as well.

@Barcelona: thanks kindly, will send you a PM!

Since I last commented back in August, I purchased a newer car. 2016 Honda Civic last month from my father and the car is in amazing condition was garage kept.

During my free time I been working on the car, cleaning it, adding modifications. I been enjoying it and it keeps me busy. Sometimes when a hard day at work comes at you or a problem. You wanna take a breather and focus on something you enjoy.
