Hobbies Thread

Moving lawn (we have about 15 acres), fixing up the house and yard. Studying/training/labbing, reading, playing acoustic guitar, watch a little anime. Rafting on our dugout.

I used to do a fair bit of biking (as in bicycle) I'm trying to get back into that again. It's hard trying to fit everything in.

Baseball / Softball both playing it and watching it. Usually weekends I will go catch a game at the ballpark and then Sunday I play with a bunch of guys I grew up with in my old church. Always have a blast. Gets me out there active and playing, and it is something I am passionate about besides computers.

I lift weights about 4-5 times a week and do boxing for cardio. I play basketball on the weekends [not every weekend]. I also really enjoy playing golf although I'm not too good at it.

My hobby is speed. Prefer cars but love driving anything that goes over 100 mph. bikes, boats, etc. Best yet in car is 167 in Ferrari 348 and over 175 on a chipped and geared Honda 954 (ran out of road).

"If it's too fast, your're too old"
Your doing this on closed racetracks - not public streets, yeah?

Lemme see.... My wife & I like to take weekend trips and sometimes more days. We try to fit those trips (we drive a lot) around long weekends if possible. I'd like to take a trip to Florida this fall, but don't know if it will happen. We'll just have to wait and see.

We have 2 cats (male & female - both "fixed") and 1 dog - a mix of retriever, collie and at least 1 or 2 more. He is a real sweetie who does a good job of letting us know when someone knocks on the door or when one of our neighbors get home. He's real good at waking himself up with a bark or two when he has been asleep. What a funny doggy!

I used to play a lot of guitar and bass (4-string G&L L-1000 solid body electric) back when I had friends to play music with. I have no callouses now but suspect that this will change in the not-to-distant future. A friend of mine from High School plays with a local band and we're going to get together next week and talk about old times and play some tunes. I also own a Fender acoustic/electric bass guitar that I bought on a whim but now wish I hadn't. Oh well.

I spend a lot of time watching various bass guitar lessons on youtube - a lot of good free videos for this and of course many other things. The things I've learned from so many videos on youtube which have helped me with this industry as well. I can remember back when we didn't have all of the great resources that we have now - including this very good forum and user-base.

I also like to go freshwater fishing up near where my youngest son lives. His father-in-law has a very nice pontoon that we go out and fish from. Last year I probably went fishing about 2 / month. So far this year only one time. Hopefully sometime this month or next we can get some more time on the water (reservoir).

*Used to be crazy into online games, ran quite a few public gaming servers. First person shooters...various Quakes, Unreal Tournament, much of the Battlefield series, etc. Stopped gaming about 7 or so years ago.
*Used to be into radio controlled planes. Haven't in over 10 years.
*Used to play electric guitar, still have my last one...a sunburst Fender Strat.
*Boats...for most of my life have been a boater. I sold my last boat about 6 years ago...I always looked for some classic (1960's -1980's) speed boats...bought them, fixed them up, used for a few years, sold, pickup another "flip boat". I'd get high performance outboard speed boats. Baja, Checkmate, Glastrons, etc. Will get back into it soon, I miss boating
*Cooking
*Travel
*Harley motorcycles...similar to boats, buy an older one, fix it up/customize, sell, find another.
*The Beach/Ocean....anything on them.

Overall, I enjoy doing things with other people, sharing experiences with them, and introducing new things to other people and seeing them enjoy it. Example...teaching someone to water ski and seeing them put a big smile on the first time they "get it".

I used to be heavy into video games, but thats died down a lot. I'm slowly playing through The Witcher 3 now, and with Fallout 4 they're probably the only games I've played this year so far.

I also play a table top game called Flames of War. Its a WWII company-level game with infantry, tanks, artillery, etc. You buy, build, and paint your own models for it, and over the years I've built quite a collection. I still occasionally also do some 3D Modeling in Maya and use a 3D Printer to create buildings and terrain for the game. Even partnered with a guy to sell some of the stuff.

I also just do 3D modeling for fun. My family and I spent a lot of money on me getting a a Bachelor degree in it, so I try to keep the skills fresh even though I'm not in that industry anymore. I also use it as a prototyping software for some of my weirder inventions I come up with every now and then. I designed a desk that folds up so it takes up very little space when moving and built it out of MDF (a bad choice imo, should have used real wood). Works great and still using it as I type this 4 moves and six years later. I also designed a "tool trough" when I got annoyed at all my tools getting in my way while working on the bench, so now I have a neat little trough that sits elevevated on the bench for all my tools to sit in so they're never out of reach, but also never in the way. I'll attach some of my Flames of War and 3D work if anyone cares to see some of it.

Playing the game:

Presumably not at the same time?

I do a bit of cycling too. Need to find time to do more. I used to cycle everywhere when I was a kid.

Cooking, I don't do too well. Unless you count beans on toast.

I try not to do them at the same time.... LOL!!!

I'm getting back into it. Broke down and bought a new bike, Jamis Satellite Comp. Used to do a lot of riding up until the late 90's. Close to 3k miles a year. Certainly tough getting back into the swing of things. I really need to get hooked up with some local riding groups.

Very cool modeling Krynn.....
back in my early years, til early high school years, WWII was a hobby of mine, specifically aircraft, but also tanks. I built lots of models....and had them hanging in my basement simulating air combat. Had my basement divided into two halves...European Theater, and Pacific Theater. But I did those pre-made models, I recall 1:48 scale being popular. But nothing compared to your skills of making them from scratch.

I can add another thing I'm getting back into, shooting, indoor target practice. Starting to spend time at the range. Growing up, my dad did a lot of competition pistol shooting.
