I have a ASUS 1001PXD Notebook for a replacement Hard Drive, however this hard drive proves to check out OK but leaves me with another problem of the Notebook will now only start up to the American Megatrends screen and just Hangs there and will go no further.
I have tried replacing the Hard Drive with a Seagate but the Notebook does the same thing the American Megatrends and just hangs there, the screen reads as follows,
AMIBIOS (C) 2010 American Megatrends, Inc.
ASUS 1001PXD ACPI BIOS Revision 0702
CPU : Intel (R) Atom (TM) CPU N455 @1.66GHz
speed : 1.66 GHz

Press ESC for BBS POPUP
Press F9 for image recovery
Press ALT+F2 to execute Asus EZ Flash
The MCH is operating with DDR3 667/CL5, Single-Channel Mode
Initializing USB Controllers ..Done.
1015MB OK (Installed Memory Size : 1024MB)

(C) American Megatrends, Inc

I was getting the BIOS up before I exchanged the Hard Drive.
Well never come across this before has anyone got a ideas on how to fix this.

It sounds like you're fighting one of the "tech-trouble-trinity" to me: RAM, CPU, or MB. I'd say strip it down to no drives, cards, etc. and see if it gets all the way to a "no boot device" found message. If it doesn't, then try swapping out the RAM. If it fails after that, consider the cost effectiveness of replacing a CPU/MB versus replacing the laptop, and then decide if you want to take the gamble and guess which one is the issue (processor failures are rare, but difficult to pinpoint).

Yep, but this is a netbook. So it's probably all soldered on except for one RAM chip.

Actually a common problem on those netbooks. It's the BIOS chip and I even ordered one from Tunisia and it took two months to arrive. I soldered in on the board and it worked but the guy that programmed it stuffed it full of nonsense digits for serial numbers and other sections. It was ugly so I just ordered another board to fix it. Others that have been brought in, just go in the parts pile. Not worth fixing them and after messing around for two months on the last one, I just bit the bullet and bought another board to get it out of the shop.

Strip it down as far as you can with it still being bootable.

With the memory chips removed, you should get beeps. If you do not
chances are the machine is a goner. If you can find a replacement motherboard,
and want to take the job on, then you can go that route. Most CPU's are soldered on
so if you buy a new board, you don't need to worry about it. Worst case scenario is that
the ram may need replacing as well, but it's doubtful that both the board and the ram are
no good.

Well thanks guys for all your help, I believe it's the MB all though it's just guess work, however after resetting the BIOS it all went back to normal for about ten minutes then the same thing all over again when I booted it up again. And that's where I left it until the customer gives me instruction.
