Does anyone have recent experience with DualDesk? Previous posts regarding it are older and not very informative. Most seem to have moved to something else, and I'm wondering what the reasons are. The website is awful, but does claim to work with Windows 10. It's the least expensive "stand-alone" products I've seen yet.

Trialled it a few years back - didn't like it. I'm pretty sure it's VNC based - can't remember exactly though. If it is it's going to be a bit crap.

Hadn't noticed that about OS X or VNC. I went back and looked and couldn't really make sense of it. I'll pass as I just need something that works. I recently received an email offering Zoho assist for $43 for a year. It will do the basic stuff which is what I need right now, and the price is right. I'll find better and more sophisticated tools as I do more of this and can therefore afford to pay for them.

Ammyy has come up as probably the most affordable solution that I've found so far. I'll be snagging a licence for them, myself, soon.

Not sure if Ammy fixed it but they were using consecutive user ids and people were getting hacked. Hopefully they corrected that. Not sure if Tommy Jordan is on this forum but he was the one that found that out.

Anyone installing it would be wise to consider carefully prior to clicking/granting 'accept/grant access'; if the technician/sysadmin in question is installing it and configuring it run as a service (with password protection), there is little risk of him/her accepting an unsolicited inbound connection attempt...I'd hope! (If talking someone thru an install via phone, it would be quite easy for a customer to mistakenly assume the connection attempt was from you :)
