Anyone use an LED LCD in place of a regular LCD screen lately?

I'm on eBay looking for a screen and there are multiple listings for LED screens with an adapter cable. They seem sketchy and I would be ****** if I used it and it killed a client's laptop. Have any of you used it? It says it's due to a shortage for the other regular non-LED LCD.

What is the model of a laptop, if the board supports it, then you can, if not, I have tried using one of the "adapters" before and it didnt work, 2 different laptops that said it was supported for. I just replaced an LCD with an LED on a Dell Inspiron 1545, so I know it can work.

EDIT: I knew it would work since there are LCD/LED cables, and have both the LCD and LED versions in my shop.

It's a crapshoot. I have used one successfully on a Toshiba but apparently the compatibility is machine manufacturer dependant. You have to make sure that the conversion screen you are buying works OK with the brand of laptop you are using.

Here in the UK there are a few Top Rated Sellers on eBay who I will buy screens from. For the retrofit screens they will usually state the screen is only for a particular make and model. We've bought quite a few and they have been fine.

Agree with above

Sometimes it works, often it doesnt, with adapter.

I use a place that generally can do it. Wish I knew their trick as I am sick of paying them money for doing the ones I cant get to work!

I also did a retrofit on an LED screen into a Inspiron 1545 in December and it worked fine for me but im not happy fitting conversions as it is difficult to find where to locate the 'convertor Board' if it does not fit in place of the old inverter board

A lot of laptops have led's or lcd's of the same model laptop. Why not look to see if you can replace the lcd harness with an led harness? I know that's what i've done to a few laptops now.
