AMD RX-480 and ZEN - AMD's come back move

I have always liked AMD. I love it when they stick it to Intel.

Agreed, but, it's been a long time since the days of the Athlon 64/320 vs. the classic Pentium IV...; ever since Core 2, AMD has been picking at proverbial fallen table scraps, and, every 2.5 years, catches up with Intel's benchmarks three ticks and two tocks ago!

Monday is suppose to be a very interesting trading day. The sediment is that it should stay above 11 and possibly move up a lot more. I have no idea why but will just wait and see.

I am long on AMD and looking to add more shares at the beginning of year.

Which seems to be opposite everything I have been reading and the trend looks to be going down until the product is nearing/is released.

AMD stock blasted off today!
13.72

BTW - AMD is releasing the retail Ryzen processor next month :) I will be in line to pick one up with a nice new AM4 board and about 16 gigs ram.

Wish I could afford something like that. For now I'll have to wait several years until this platform goes into the recycling bins.

As curious as I am about AMD's new platform, I'm still rocking a first gen core i7 930
from about 7 years ago.... and it's still cranking right along with everything I need! The
only reason I haven't completely thrown out the idea of an upgrade is that the newer
chips are much more power efficient... which I care a lot more about now since I'm paying
the bill as opposed to not paying for it back then! Funny how moving out on your own
makes you a lot more conscious about what your spending.

As a side note, too darn bad I didn't jump into some AMD when it was under $2 a share.
At any rate, I wouldn't have had a lot of money to go in with back then anyways. Still, would
have been cool to see two or three thousand turn into fifteen or twenty thousand!.

Cramer just did a segment on AMD tonite. I do not normally watch him (dont care for him) but I did catch it and he is pumping it hard. However, He said about buying it - "Wait for a pull back". Got news for him. In one month the Ryzen hits the streets. Your really going to wait upwards of a month for a pull back? Dont think its going to be there until end of first quarter. By then its going to be much higher even with pull back. Go look at the stock price everytime AMD has released a new processor. It literally screams :)

I have been in AMD since about 5.04/share.

After the Ryzen desktop release comes the Server version release in Q2. After that is the new high performance video chipset release. Dont forget that the icing on the cake is the deal with Intel to supply its graphics chips :) .

I really think that next month the release of the Ryzen will basically sell out. There are a lot of people out there that are sick and tired of Intels price gouging.

I used to be a big fan of AMD.
They were the first to 1 GHZ, first 64 bit processor, first Dual-Core processor. But Intel has blown them away on everything else.
I got tired of "giant killer" stories that AMD would release parts equal to or better than Intel but always failing to deliver.
My last AMD purchase was in 2009, since then every build, every laptop, every processor sold by my business has been Intel.
I rarely buy AMD (ATI) video cards now as well. They're being constantly blown away by nVidia as well.

newer

Unfortunately AMD doesn't seem to be able to get near Intel's power consumption/performance figures.
My old 1090T in my gaming machine uses a LOT of power compared to an i7 of the same era!
And nowhere near the same performance either.

Intel know that all AMD's bold claims end up as nothing. Intel are so far ahead of AMD they have no intention of lowering their prices.

Times do change :)

When you can buy a processor that comes close to intel speeds for half the money its a deal changer

AMD has always been a budget brand. Even back in the early 486 days AMD was always the budget chip. Times haven't changed much. Yes prices have dropped compared to back then, but AMD has lost lots of steam.

AMD did however back in 486/Pentium days have a good point of argue that a budget AMD chip would perform so well you didn't need to spend the insane prices Intel was wanting.

One of the reasons I don't use AMD is they had a huge issue with laptops and quality concerns. Now, truth be told, this wasn't 100% AMD's fault but being a budget brand only invited cheap boards for both desktop and laptop. The other issue was TDP, AMD ran so hot. Previously AMD had no technology to throttle the CPU, so if a cooling system failed, your CPU cooked itself to death.

Many of these systems were generations ago, and I personally had a few of these and had a hard time giving them away because I knew it was only a matter of time when they would die (and they did). I reserved giving those systems to starving colledge students who couldn't afford anything else and despite the quality issues were thankful they had a system.

AMD has big shoes to fill. They should not compete with Intel how they are. They should focus on good quality budget. The fact they allowed OEM's to buy the C & E Series is unforgivable, as there were lots of laptops and sub notebooks that came with those horrid chips.

It's similar to BlackBerry. The old Curve Series (8000) were never meant for distribution in North America. They were designed for area like Africa and other emerging markets due to the cost. But many carriers bought them and made huge profits because they were so cheap. They were also notoriously unreliable and often had to be repaired or software reloaded.

So these for profit moves ended up being bad publicity.

Hm. Lets wait and see guys. PCworld says that AMD Ryzen will be smaller than Skylake now.

Ya'll can support intel if you want. I don't like the idea of a company who lays off workers to import them from overseas. Just me. I am an American though, so this article may mean more to me than to others. I personally think for what you get though, Intel is pricey. I just hope AMD's new chips live up to the hype they are getting.

I would say it's good enough they've got intel a little concerned.

It's not a matter of "supporting Intel!" I supply what my customers want! Intel don't pay me for selling their processors.
Unfortunately AMD doesn't have a very good reputation now. I wish them all the best but unfortunately (for AMD) I need to make money - and I cant do that selling AMD!

Iam no fan of Intel either. Yes, They have fastest processors. But its the bang for the buck that really matters. According to what I have been hearing is the release of the Ryzen is first week of March. Not that far away. I plan on selling some of my stock to afford the new system I am going to build with it. Going to be nice. :)

Incidently, Did you see that Intel is looking to build in Arizona? Here is a link:
