A question about Instant Housecall

Hi all, I am thinking about remote support for the first time and have been reading everything here
about all the options and have been trying out a few the past couple days. I seem to really like Instant
Housecall but there there is just one thing that is confusing me. This is from their website..."

Step 3: Direct sub-account user to download Specialist Sign-in

"Sub-account users control the remote PC with the Specialist Sign-in, just like a regular Specialist does. They can download unlimited copies using your licence at no cost, and install it on unlimited PCs.
  • Provide your sub-account user with the link to Specialist Sign in:
  • Once they run the Specialist Sign-in, they can login with the credentials you created in Step 1
  • Right-click the system tray icon, choose Unattended Access, then choose the PC to control"...
Does a sub account user have access to the tools? Also if I'm paying for it why would I want to give it
away to be installed on unlimited PCs? I'm sorry if I'm having a senior moment!

We use Instant Housecall, but have never gotten into using sub-accounts or the tools. What did Instant Housecall support say when you asked them?
I didn't talk to any one I got that info from their site. But thank you, I will contact their support!

Instant Houscall is very expensive.
I use Teamviewer and although a bit expensive as well, it works out to be good value feature wise compared to many others.
My .02

I use TeamViewer for my server clients and have three splashtop accounts for my employees to do remote support for residential. So I am spending around 1150 us a year.

I haven't messed with sub-accounts, but I know Corey is very responsive to support calls and emails. I know some people who use it and it's good for subcontractors working with you. You can give them limited access to your client base. I know some techs that let their clients use it, so an admin on site would have remote access to the computers at their company along with you as the consultants.

The "tools" that are used are all things that are accessible through other means. I wouldn't expect a client to be using them.

Thank you calldrdave!

Oh you just know I would chime in here. Have a look at AnyDesk. I use it on a daily basis. No it does not have all the bells and whistles like the expensive counterparts, but it offers what I need and its cheap and unlike others, it does have unattended access - it just works.
Thanks PCMD, I'll check it out!

Splashtop is good but you do not have unattended access.

Depends on which of their packages you have. If you're doing business clients and have it on every PC you manage, then you can have it. If you're doing ad-hoc "download this program and tell me the session code" with their SOS product, then no.

Yeah I've got the SOS product. Cheapest thing at the time to be legit.

GAK! It looks like my pager was on the fritz. @cam w , the purpose of subaccounts is to give you accounts that are limited to a few unattended access endpoints so your customers can remote into their own PCs. They use the same Specialist Sign-in as a regular technician, but they won't be able to use some of the features -- most notably on-demand sessions. In terms of the tools, at this time subaccounts are not prevented from using them, but that may happen down the road.

As Dave pointed out, different people have different uses. Some use them with sub-contractors, others with customers, but the bottom line is that they let you give an account to someone to access an unattended PC.

I'll try to do better at monitoring the forums, but if you ever need assistance, please e-mail me at corey@instanthousecall.com or call 1-888-838-4050.
