144hz Holy SMOKES!

I had a 5 year old monitor die on me and I've always wanted a 27" 144hz Monitor but I could never justify buying one. Well, instead of buying the same monitor that just died on me I decided to replace them both with the ASUS VG278Q because I absolutely cannot have two different size monitors.

After enabling 144hz ... WOW I need to go back and adjust my mouse sensitivity because it's feels so much different. It's like looking at one of those ultra-smooth soap operas on my screen.

I know the biggest difference is gaming related, and I do a little bit of gaming here and there, nothing crazy, but these are some sweet screens!

I've never been able to tell much difference between monitor refresh rates except in extreme circumstances (like the fact that an older HDMI cable will only allow 24hz on a 4k display - now that's laggy!). There reaches a point where I have enough. Going from 16 colors to 256 colors was a HUGE jump. Then going from 256 colors to "thousands of colors" was another HUGE jump. The move from "thousands of colors" to "millions of colors?" Not much difference as far as I could see except when viewing images with very smooth gradients. It's the same story when it comes to refresh rates. So long as I have 60hz, I'm good. I mean, even the difference between 1080p and 4k isn't that big to me. I guess I'm weird, but I still frickin play N64 games and Super Nintendo games and it's just normal to me. Once the graphics got past a certain point (SNES was that point for me), improvements in graphics weren't that big of a deal to me. I'd rather have a fun game with primitive graphics than a boring game that looks realistic. I mean it's kind of exciting from a technical standpoint, but it does very little to improve things in real life for me.

It's definitely not necessary. I've lived on 60hz my whole life and I was tempted just to save the money and stay with 60hz but I decided to spoil myself a little bit because I'm having a kid in October and I KNOW once the baby comes it would be impossible to justify anything that could be classified as luxury.

And don't get me wrong a 144hz monitor is pure luxury, there is no practical reason for it. Even if I was a big gamer, especially in FPS games, 60hz to 144hz isn't going to make me any better because I'm older and slower and I suck ... well, chances are I always sucked, now I'm old enough to be at peace with the fact that I'm not very good at video games.

Yeah some of these youtubers spend crazy amounts of money on high end gaming monitors. I suppose it makes sense when they are monetized channels getting tons of revenue but for the every day person they are pretty high priced. I'll stick with a basic 4k tv and that's good enough for me.

Speaking of older games I'm definitely looking forward to the Final Fantasy 7 remake coming up in March for the Playstation 4 system. The original on the PS1 was a child hood favorite of mine. The graphics at the time in 1997 were pretty good but kids today would think they are horrible of course. Some of the previews on the remake really look awesome so hopefully it turns out well. They are going to milk the series for as much as they can get since most of their newer games are garbage I'm sure lol.

It goes higher than that for 4k monitor it goes all way up to 200hz for a measly $2500 USD

I just got an Nvidia GTX 1050, my build is about 6 years old now. So I definitely would need to upgrade the CPU and mobo to get a better card in the future. Just looked at your original post again and that is the same monitor I wanna get. Just the 24"

Yeah I got a GTX1060 ... not a powerhouse by any means but I'm not really into cutting edge FPS's that require a GTX2070+ to maintain the 120+ frames required to take advantage of a 144hz monitor but it plays things like Overwatch/League just fine.

I've just always craved a 27" 144hz monitor and I sit far away enough from my desk that a 27" isn't too big. I love em!

It's pretty crazy how all the tech youtubers who have used 90hz or 144hz phones say that you just can't describe the smoothness of a 144hz display and you can't ... it just makes everything feel snappier ... it's not SSD level snappiness but it's definitely noticeable.

Yeah I mostly play just Overwatch and some steam games. Looking forward to a better setup than I have now.

New gaming monitors are able to hit 240hz at 1080p and 200hz 4k but why do they have rgb lighting on the back of the monitor lol most of the time monitors face a wall huge waste of money though.
