Hi, a customer purchased and downloaded a legal windows 7 upgrade for his vista machine. The upgrade install (not clean) went fine, came to the stage to enter a product key, he did not have one, so he entered his vista one, it rejected it so I told him to skip it and continue the install. It completed and now I tried to get him to activate by phone, but there is no option anyplace to do that, only online, and that fails. Anybody know the USA number or link to get this activated????

btw this is exactly what microsoft's tech support will tell you to do when you call them for support, so please do some investigation before you remove posts
http://www.google.com/search?q=slmgr+/rearm+regedit+win7+site:microsoft.com

Run cmd.exe as administrator
in cmd shell type regedit
navigate to
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersionsetup/OOBE/mediabootinstall
change its value from 1 to 0
Go back to the CMD Prompt, type the following:
slmgr /rearm
Reboot the computer and use the activate windows to enter your product key

I did google, but he did a upgrade install NOT a clean install, he was sent no windows 7 key, it was not provided, only has his original vista key, and that will not work on web activation.

The Vista key should work for the Win 7 upgrade as long as it was part of the free upgrade program. Call MS and they will get you setup.

He paid for it, not a free upgrade. He downloaded it, he never got an email with a key or anything, thats why I needed to find that number, hopefully he won't get a big run-around.

if he purchased it from digital river or any other microsoft partner they should be able to provide him with a key , they email the key with the download link when purchased
