Hey all!

I have been totally unable to find this information anywhere at this point. Perhaps someone who is already familariw with this can help me out?

What are the requirements - in terms of previous operating systems - to qualify for a 10 key?
I know Windows 7 & 8 qualify, but does Windows XP? Assuming we still need a COA to qualify? Or have they changed this? Since there is no way to get a Windows 8 COA from a sticker.

Thank you!

Thank you for filling me on what I apparently have overlooked on the forums.

However, my primary question was, does the Windows 10 Refurb work with Win XP as well?

Not sure I understand the question.

If you're asking about the MS Refurbisher program, I can't answer as I'm not a registered refurbisher. However, there are many here on TN that are and can probably answer it.

If you're asking if Win 10 "works" on an XP-class machine, in most cases, yes. But how "well" it works depends on the PC's hardware. I did a number of Win 10 clean installs on XP-class machines back when I was learning Win 10. But would never recommend it for a customer as they have to buy Win 10 on top of all the other charges.

I wouldn't put Win 7 and up on anything that wasn't a dual-core processor of some kind.

So what sort of system are you wondering about upgrading?

He is asking if Xp legally qualifies under the refurbisher program for an upgrade to Windows 10.

The answer is no it does not because Windows Xp hardware is as a rule unable to run Windows 10. (Yes you can often get it work but Microsoft will not support it.)

I find it inconceivable that, one year plus after Win10 release, someone is just now wondering if XP qualifies for it....; after the expiration of the free upgrade offer, no less....

:)
That's not the question, though. The question is if XP qualifies for an upgrade Win 10 through the MS Refurb program.

Allow me to clarify that this is for a specific reason I am asking this question for an odd circumstance.

I of course would not upgrade some ratty pc to Windows 10.

So as there seems to be a lack of information here I was simply trying to clarify in this instance if Windows xp qualifies under the Windows 10 refurb program.

For commercial refurbishers, I guess we'll find out when the commercial Windows 10 refurb licenses become available. At the moment I'm still using Windows 7 Home Premium refurb licenses to activate Windows 10 Home installs.

fincoder, how are you doing this? 1) I thought the Win7 licenses were history at this point 2) The Windows 10 upgrade program is done with.

1) I thought the Win7 licenses were history at this point
In my country (Australia) they are warning that the Win7 refurbisher licenses will end soon. I believe the product keys will still be issued until January. Some distributors here have already stopped selling Win7 refurbisher license packs, and no Win10 packs available yet.

2) The Windows 10 upgrade program is done with.
The Windows 10 upgrade is no longer 'offered', but you can still use Windows 10 install media (including the latest downloaded 1607 ISO) to do clean installs AND in-place upgrades. The only thing that's stopped is going to the MS website and clicking Upgade Now, and of course the automatic upgrade.
