Hi all,

Each time I attempt this install the same things happens.

Installing XP Media Centre, reboot, and the SYSTEM registry hive is corrupt.

I've tried different discs, different cd drive, different hard drive.

Just about to try swapping the RAM.

Might just be me having a bad day though. :o

Ram / memory would have been my first guess. Let us know how it turns out.

And why in the world are you installing XP? At least consider going with Win7 or if not wanting to pay for an O/S, check out Linux Mint.

It's Saturday. Take the hint and run with it.

Well, we don't know the make or model of the unit or why you are doing the install or if this machine has a history of problems. So I am going with the "having a bad day" because you sound like you are off your game.

XP because the client wants to keep it, sadly.

Sorry, as Mark put, it was a Saturday. :o

E system Ei314

No history of issues.

RAM passes Memtest 86+ with no issues, swapped it with another stick, same problem.

Check the bios and reset everything to defaults and try again. Is the hard drive SATA?

New RAM, new HDD, same problem.

Done and still same problem.

No, IDE

If you are still having trouble with this system, get out your magnifying glass and take a good long look at the motherboard for any leaking or domed capacitors (the miniature-looking barrels with (usually) shiny tops on them). I have also seen caps that looked good on top but were blown out at the bottom. Be sure to look at all of the caps surrounding the CPU socket. If you have to take the motherboard / main board out of the chassis to do this then do so.

Sadly still having trouble, I'll check that on Monday morning.

This thread comes across as very "Diag 101" or pizza tech. I mean you put zero effort into this and seem to be expecting help like some noob on Majorgeeks.

Jimbo,

After the week or so of problems (personal) that I've just had I'm sure you'd be the same.
