Why Are There Two Brother Printer Options?

Every time I go to print something and within the Device and Printer applet, two versions of my Brother printer appear. Why is that? My friend's Brother printer does something similar: there's two exact copies of the same printer.



Printer does not do fax

Installed as a network printer

The Full Driver & Software Package was installed

Maybe these properties windows tell us something about what makes the two different:

Are the drivers the same? Sometimes I see different drivers for the same printer like PCL 5 and PCL 6 and I think it is for compatibility perhaps?

+1 that one of them is a fax machine.

By the naming "Root Print Queue" I wonder if they are passing Queued print jobs or something. Does the printer still work if you remove the Print Queues printer?

We find this with HP's sometimes, you install the printer but the computer also auto detects a network print and installs it.

It is installed as a network printer (WiFi). I think that only the Brother engineers could give a definitive answer.

well, you have dual power supplies, quad nics, mutli core processor, raid hard drive - so why not a fail over printer!
