Which laptop do you use for work?

The E6500 was a replacement for my Mini-9, surprised to find it soon replaced my Desktop (Dell Precision 450 - Video editing station). I got a low end one with the 8400 CPU, but all the other bells and whistles. A few months later I was asked to recommend a laptop and I pointed to mine. My client opted for a top of the line (some people just don't listen all that well). Since the only difference at the time was the processor and HDD size I couldn't resist taking the time to set the new one up with identical software - wanted to "drag race" them and see how much faster the better CPU was - I was surprised to see that the difference wasn't that much - only about 2 seconds on boot time - everything else was in the 1 second range. (Cost difference, about $300).

No Complaints at all - (OK, it would be great if it was lighter, Might pick up an Acer One - for that...) -

I bought Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 recently. It’s a pad cum laptop. I knew that people would move to pad some day and won’t be able to get off laptop, so I took a product which is pad and laptop at the same time. I had a Dell Inspiron 1525 before that.

I use a Acer Aspire 7551-2113, not the fastest but good battery life and 17.3 screen with a 320hdd, 4gb of ddr3 ram, with a 2.1ghz amd dual core (yes I love amd :) ).That's my on the road gear. Also, at least two external hard drive, 200gb each, just in case, you know.

At home / office I use a custom build phenom II X6 1090t, 4gb ddr3 1600, two 48702 either crossfire if I only need two screens or non-crossfire for more than 2 screens (currently using 3 24inches) with a gigabyte mobo, all hooked up with 5.5tb storage, and two 22x optical drive. A little overkill I know, but useful.:D

Dell Vostro 1520 running Windows 7 Pro 32bit
Acer One running XP
For backup in case the Dell dies I have a new ASUS X52F Windows 7 home 64bit

For Home/Office I have a custom built PC which I built a few years ago. 6GB DDR2 RAM, 2.5TB, XP pro, Vista and Win7 home 64bit. Use 2 monitors 27" Samsung monitor and 19" Dell.

averatec

Averatec 2150 (msi build your own).
12" wide screen.
I run Win7, Puppy 5 and Backtrack on it. I found I do not need processor power, but a DVD drive still is handy from time to time.

I have a Averatec 3150 that I take on Wildfires where we are working in tents and it could not be dirtier. I use it mostly to setup users, printers, check wireless signal and abuse it since 2004.

I have only stayed away from netbooks because of the short screen on the 10 inch and below.

I have:

An Ipad which I always bring (have it in a case with business & credit cards), to be honest I havent used it as much in the field as I thought I would... I use it for reference to google stuff etc.

Most cases I bring my Macbook 13" which has xp & windows 7 in parallels.

In my techbag (which is always in the car) I also have a Acer Aspire One 10" with windows 7

A lot of netbook love in this thread, I find them hard to use having big hands with those (girly) keyboards I feel like I'm going to break them.

I currently use a Nokia Booklet 3g running Win 7 Pro. It runs well and the shell is aluminum so it can take quite a bit of punishment. I tried installing various flavors of Linux on it but the GMA500 chipset has issues with the newer distros.

If you want to run Linux, do not get this machine as it will make you crazy. Otherwise, it's a great lug-around netbook and it gets the job done.
