I've always had a few OEM XP Home and Pro CD's in my tool kit that I've done repair installs etc with but I either left them at a customers, they got thrown away or I lost them? I know where I had them last and it was at 2 am at a business customers when they had a meltdown and had to be up and running by 8 am. I'm afraid I might have left them there and they got thrown away. In any case they are gone and I've searched high and low for them!

Does anyone have a source where I can pick up a couple of these disks? I obviously don't need serial #'s or anything like that, just the media.

Thanks for the help.

does it matter if they are sp2 or sp3? i mean if the customer bought a pc with win xp sp2 oem can we still use the same code to install win xp sp3 oem?

I know there are huge topics on this subject but so far I've never had a problem reinstalling any version of XP (Home, Media Center or Pro) by just using a OEM version of the same software. (Home, Media Center or Pro) And so far, service pack level has never come into play either. I would obviously prefer SP3 just so I wouldn't have to then manually install it myself.

From my experience if I can get an OEM XP Home and Pro disk with any service pack I should be good to go. Plus my main use is doing repairs. I did attempt a Pro repair once with a Home disk and it only half way worked. I was able to boot back to the desktop but I had alot of errors and ended up saving the data and having to do a full reinstall once I got the Pro disk.

Thanks. I guess my concern with downloading something like this is, I would be worried that something malicious had been inserted. What is my guarantee that this hasn't happened before I download an ISO? Is it the correct hash code?

It would be great if someone would be willing to host ISOs on a web or ftp server. I'd be willing to share mine.

I'd also be willing to copy ISOs on to a hard drive and mail it to someone that would be willing to forward it to the next person willing to forward, and so on, as long as the receiving person pays shipping and adds their own ISOs.

It would be nice if we all just exchanged things like this via private torrents we shared with each other on this forum. Id make my idle bandwidth and library available to folks here.

And to answer your original question, just find a windows xp 9in1 torrent and you will be all set. If you question its integrity, try it and see. You can generally trust older established torrents with high positive comment count. I have never encountered a os download with malicious code, and i have sourced quite a few on p2p.

Whilst you are probably right, you might not be. None of us are in a position to know whether any of the OS's on the 9-1 disk have been doctored with a backdoor or similar - unless you have checked them with hashes?

So there is a slight risk one might be installing unsecure OSs using the disk.

I really wish there was a place to download these things. I would like to have iso's of the orig disk, and I really cant afford a technet subscription..

I would be willing to pay the shipping and pay for the disks via paypal if someone would make me copies of there disks for windows xp, a windows vista disk, and a windows 7 master disk.

pm me if someone is willing to do that, because I need the orig disks like bryce had suggested.
