Just wondering what aspects of Tech people think will be big in 2014, either new areas or improved old, not limited to Computer sales/repairs.

I can see Tablet sales getting stronger this year, but think they will become better but cheaper still so more disposable, so while sales will grow, repairs will fall off even more.
I can also see the managed services side of the business grow, while for the same reasons above the repairs side of things will fall off some more.

I can see some big advances coming in home entertainment, more specifically advances in HD televisions and centre based control systems such as Xbox one.
Of course mobile phones will continue to advance in speed and unique technology such as LG's self healing skin, to recover from scratches, which they have just unveiled at CES.

Cheap Tablets and under powered Laptops seem to be the trend.

I see a trend in TV devices. Roku, Apple TV and the like will start gaining more ground as people get more tablets.

Yep, smart devices will continue to make significant gains. Which means conventional computers will become less relevant. I've got several customers who have told me they can live for extended periods of time with their smart phone and without a computer.

For business,I think this year will see UTM's moving into smaller and smaller businesses, and even the more sophisticated residential users. I am looking at a baseline hardware/software package that is effective and affordable, something less than the $500 a year for Untangle.

After checking my kid back in at UCLA this week, I was a little surprised to see the staff using Chromebooks, and quite effectively. With more schools going to these instead of iPads, it's something to keep an eye on. Some say that Chromebooks were 20% of notebook sales last year.

Android!!

I think you're right that cheap tablets will be in demand, whilst I am not a fan of Windows 8 (yet) there are some useful safety features for parents to monitor and take control of their kids usage... familysafety.microsoft.com

But I do think that Android will become even more popular because of the price.

Just my thoughts!

4k-tv's and displays
"disposable" laptops
steam boxes
wireless everywhere
end-users finally 'get' the cloud and start using it
