What remote access software would be good for a small/new IT support company?

How do licenses work for these systems?

I am just a single-person shop. Does that mean I just need a single user license or do I need to purchase seats for each of my customers?

Nobody mentioned, but i use Ammyy Admin. 19/mo for one license. I would have LogMeIn Rescue if I could afford it...

No kidding. I did the trial of LMIR but only had one remote during that time :(. Twas verily a sweet setup. If I get enough remotes/month to justify the expense, I'll be signing up in a flash.

with teamviewer does the other person have to have teamviewer installed to use it?
No, there is a quick support exe that is portable and can be quickly downloaded and run by the user.

For which ones? It's all different given the product.

I've been using GoToSupport Express, but just started a trial with BeAnywhere. They have per-incident pricing available, which reduces my subscription costs and the functionality seems adequate. Anyone else have experience with this one?

I beta tested gotoassist. At that time, my only complaint was the slow mouse response. I have also used LMI, which is a nice program. I am going to try out TV and IHC and see how they are. I like the TV iPhone app. Seems pretty smooth.

remote access

I use logmein for those customers that allow me 24/7 access and teamviewer for those who prefer to initiate a session and then terminate it when complete.

I signed up to Ammy Admin a while back, the greedy sods got caught helping their selves to my account funds so I put a stop to that.

I now use "Showmypc", it's cheap & fine for my needs. :)

Bear in mind that TeamViewer is not free for commercial purposes.

LogMeIn Free, as far as I know, can be and would work well for a small business once set up.

LMI is free for business but you can only have like 25 computers on your account (but there is no limit to how many accounts you make)

TV I find is better just because you can transfer files to the clients computer (looks more professional then going to a web site and downloading it from there)

I have over 50 PC's with LMI Free on my account.

I may check out that crossloop, I like the price! But I am a happy logmeinrescue user too. I might use both, I do 20-30 remote sessions a week.

We use Teamviewer here and Logmein free. Logmein for accessing server etc and teamviewer for fixing client desktop and laptops. We tryed a few and in the end teamviewer won because of the price and easy of use

The thing I didnt like about Crossloop was that the site is promotional for everyone who uses it that does remote repairs. Its like saying to customers, "you can get anyone here to do this for you". The software worked fine for me I just didnt like the fact that it brings customers that I have paid to attract, to other service providers

I have used in the past just about all remote solutions. I started with VNC and IPmonitor to track ip changes. Then came stuff like logmein and others of the sort. One day we decide to break down and buy teamviewer premium with the sql database manager option (2600 at the time) and have been smooth sailing from there. They have free options, priced options without the database (think around 700 per seat) and the more pricey options. We use it because it pays for itself over the competitions monthly fee structure because you only pay once and its yours. Plus they don't care about the computers only the seats. So you can have the software on as many systems as you want as long as you only use one at a time ( to make connections) and can support unlimited hosts and multiple concurrent sessions. Also we can connect from anywhere to anywhere just by visiting their website and getting the software. We run the quickconnect for one time support, the host on regularly supported systems without servers, and on domain we run it on the servers (host) as a connection point to run RDP to all local systems. Alternatively you can use their msi host and deploy it via group policy but that would still require documenting all the connections in the database (Thats why we use RDP locally in domains). I am in no way affiliated with teamviewer. I just say if your gonna be in the game a while then its a good investment. in the 2 or so years we have used them they only had one service outage that lasted about 1 1/2 hours. that sucked. other than that nothing but happy even with the support (germany I think)

Please take a minute to help me out here http://www.technibble.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19869
